average speed loss with cat whiskers

Just curious as to what kind of speed everyone lost when they put whiskers on there bow. I am going to put some on my katera. I'm guessing maybe 4 or 5 fps.

Ok the further out tward the cams the less speed reduction. In most instances its only 1-2 fps the weight is very light in compairison to the leaches or bowjacks. The wisckars are much more efective at dissapating string noise and vibration through thier radiant properties.

My bow must be a-typical because I lost 20 fps when I put them on my Elite E-500. I think they messed up the gains made by the speed nocks. I have also seen others lose 10-20 fps with them.

Update

My katera was shooting 275 fps with one alpha shock near the bottom cam. Today I took what was left of it off and installed whiskers on the top and bottom. I cut them to look like a nice little golf ball. I then shot it through the chrono..........274 fps. The difference in noise is unbelievable. I will be replacing the alpha shocks on my vectrix and adding whiskers.

Cat whiskers have always been my favorite, I think they silence better than any other type. I even use them in conjunction with a string stopper too, which gets rid of the noticeable thump noise. Talk about quiet, a string stopper and whiskers is deadly quiet. I've found like others have stated, keep them small in ball shape where they do not hang and whip and out towards the ends of the string, and you will not lose much speed if any?

Thats the way i see it. The difference you gain in noise reduction makes them VERY worth it.

I serve mine into the string. Take two three inch pieces of the cat wiskers and lay them on top of each other.Start your serve on your bowstring.(1/4 inch) Lay them on the bowstring the long way and continue to serve over the whiskers another 1/4 inch. Then once you get them TIGHT(Serves) you can pull the side of the whisker back thats not served and finish serving them in. Then cut them to the length you want them at ( shorter to the bowstring the more they will be in a ball) i but mine about a inch from the bowstring.)

I do mine a little differently, to get a good ball shape without gaps, I have found the tighter you tie it with the least amount of serving, the better.

I start by pressing the bow and running a very strong small diameter piece of serving approx. a foot long through the center of the bowstring on each end, then relax the bow. With the serving sandwiched between the string it will keep them from moving without additional serving. Then I lay 3 strips on each side of the bowstring approx. a 1/2 in. wide for a total of 6 strips for each silencer.

Now the trick to getting a good ball shape is use minimum serving and tie super tight. I usually take one serving end and loop it around one way and the other end around the other way, and that's it. Do not continue to wrap the serving that actually holds the whiskers on, as it builds in diameter it will take away from the shape. Then tie very tight with double knot, snip the serving for two 1/4 tags and melt tags. Then simply trim, this is the best method I have used yet.

Here's another on my other bow.

I have a vectrix plus and can't keep the alpha shock together either. I just bought some bowjax for top and bottom of the string and it is a lot quieter. I haven't chronoed it yet, but it shoots great and I can't see a difference.
