Memphis, TN - FREE - "faith based" Youth/Developmental Archery
It has taken some time and doing but I am happy to announce
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church's Youth & Developmental Archery Program is welcoming the public at large to join us in archery fellowship. We meet (most) Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm. There is a brief scripture lesson from the Arrow Faith Curriculum developed by NADA and then we shoot. We shoot in the gymnasium if it's "too hot" or "too cold", raining/inclement weather. We try to shoot outdoors whenever it's pleasant enough outside. We are at: Good Shepherd U.M.C. 6050 Summer Ave. Memphis, TN 38134 (901)386-2212 All coaches are NFAA Certified and/or NFAA State Champions or Ordained Clergy We have equipment to use, or bring your own. What you are missing....
Last night we had our best turn out to date. 30+ youth from all across our city came together to enjoy some healty social interaction and fling some arrows....
The "little ones" are the most rewarding to work with, IMO.

THANKS KM Archery Hut!
We were also VERY BLESSED by an amazing donation form KM Archery Hut...
I cannot possibly list all the needful things they provided, but our first and most critical need they fulfilled was 10 Dozen 1816 arrows, several tubes of glue, nocks, and fletchings. All I need are the screw-in field point! and I'll be a little busy fletching all these arrows up. But I'm not going to start using them till our arrow curtain gets here in 2 - 3 more weeks. they also sent all the KankPinch tabs shown above, and a member here donated the simple cub tabs

Had a wonderful night last night.
As "harsh" as it sounds I was pretty glad when only 10 kids had shown up because I'm wiped out. between my regular duties, 3 college classes this semester, 1 wife, two kids, two dogs, sitting in EVOC class all week, well I'm just tired. But we had a GREAT night and were able to really shoots each kid got to shoot 6 arrows at a time and every one of them got to shoot till their arm fell off. The best part is the parents and even grandparents really got involved with the kids and some of them even shot! The Popcorn was another brilliant idea for an inexpensive healthier snack and a success.

Tomorrow I start cutting down and "fixing" all the arrows we've damaged over the past 6 months. My new arrow saw is going to get a serious work-out.
This is only about 1/3 of the arrows we've cracked, splintered or bent from sending into the cinder-block wall at the far end of the Gymnasium:

Our Super Star
This girl can SHOOT. She came to us about 8 months ago, never picked up a bow in her life, never even heard of archery until she say the sign on the church marquee (my avatar)
She has aspirations of shooting in the State Championships next month. I think she has a chance.... BTW she's shooting a 30# PSE Recurve

here is young lady who is currently wheelchair bound and has been shooting with us for a while. she has found an activity and social setting where she can "stand on her own" despite her limitations.
I'm happy to say she is doing QUITE well. She is currently shooting a 25# Browning and is really trying to build up her strenght to shoot the shiny red Mystic that used to belong to one of our member. Whe hope to get her out on the 3D range soon as the ground dries up enough to allow the chair to traverse the course.

Here are Matt & Alan not related but I call them my "Ritalin Twins"
And a poseur-shot one of my "rounds". Our "game" is you step to the line and get one shot, and only one shot on each animal. One of our critters is out being fitted for a wooden stand so we can shoot it inside and thus loose less arrows to the troll that lives in the woods behind our range and eats our stray arrows.
