affe22 are you a Missouri Native? I noticed that you are in Montana now. If you are I have all kinds of questions for you!
Spent my first 25 years in MO. Given that I'm only 27, I figured that is a pretty good amount of time .

I am actually from Eureka (you can make it out on my shirt in the avatar). That is why I found that guy's post kind of funny.

Shoot me a pm.

I must be out of the loop, because it doesn't seem all that cheap to me. From what I read that $125.00 a day is just the tresspass and possibly guide fee?? Add another $100 or more a day for food, lodging, and fuel. Works out to about what a week long bear hunt in Canada cost me just a few years ago (5).

here is the difference.....i can go to missouri hog hunting for a weekend with my buddies and not burn any vacation and hopefully have a lot of fun. i can't go to canada for a weekend and only spend about $300. plus i looked up hog hunts in tx and ok and they run about 700/day so to me this is a good deal

Another option would be Fort Leonard Wood, although I'm not sure how the hog population actually is any more. It would be all DIY but it would also be a lot cheaper. You should be able to find contact information online.

I know there is a outfitter down by Warsaw, MO. I've met him several times but can't remember his name:confused: He has had Royce Gracie and Tonya Harding there hunting hogs.:darkbeer:

Not all are that bad. This place wants $125 a day for hunting and lodging and that gets you (2) hogs! Were gonna give em a shot in April!

Working Man's Bow Ranch

I spoke to the guy that owns that outfitter near Ironton the other day. Seemed like a nice guy. There are definitely hogs in that part of the state. I've that general area a few times for hogs, but have not seen any there.

The guy at the outfitter says they have feeders and do well at night. Seems reasonable for a Missouri hog hunt. Most of the other places I've seen are $500 and up.

Here is another place not far from SW Missouri that I've hunted before. I've killed 2 hogs here. http://www.rollingrranch.com/index.html

I've never heard of anything around Eureka MO. There are a few other outfitters farther SW on I-44, but the prices are a bit higher.

There is a bunch of federal land around Ironton that can be hunted free of charge. Mark Twain National Forest holds ferral hogs but it is a huge area! The problem is finding them. You can go out and see tons of sign but never see a hog. The best way to go I think is after a good snow, when you can track them. I know guys that have killed them with guns on the public land, but haven't talked to anyone that has taken one with a bow down there.

Ft. Leonard Wood has them too, and again its free to hunt there, but you have to go through the proper channels....and watch out for incoming fire. lol

There are several outfitters and what not in the area. A few high fence areas too.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I might be able to shine a little light on some things.

I think the place that people are talking about outside of St. Louis is called High Adventure Ranch.

And I can personally vouch for Stone Creek Hunting Ranch. I've been the last two years in a row and we've already booked for 2011. We go with a large group and reserve the whole place. The guys that operate that place are stand up guys. They'll go out of their way to put you on the hogs. And it's not like shooting fish in a barrel either. You've gotta put in the work, a lot more work than I've ever put in during deer season!

Whats the cost? We are paying $150 for two hogs, one of which can be over 150 lbs and this includes a nights stay at the place. We are currently going to a place in Texas that is 6 hours from Kansas.

Thanks in advance!

They are definitely around Ironton, and like others have said there is a ton of public land (MTNF) in the area. My experience has been that is hasn't been hard to find the signs, but it has been hard to get on the hogs themselves. I think your best options would be at night, or as someone else mentioned with snow on the ground.

I've spent a lot of time trying to hunt free range hogs in Missouri and it's TOUGH. I've never been successful. Because the populations are so spread out and food sources are so abundant, you basically have to be in the right place at the right time. Setting up bait sites doesn't work well because there are so many other food sources readily available to them.

As for the cost of Stone Creek, we get a group rate and book the lodge for the weekend, start Friday at noon and leave Sunday at noon, it's $500 which includes one hog of any size, two nights accommodations, and 3 meals (awesome food!). Guide service is included as well as tracking, dragging your hog out, skinning, and quartering. Hogs are kept in a walk-in cooler on site until you're ready to leave.

I found a lot of places around Texas that are cheaper and allow the shooting of multiple hogs. However, by the time you factor in the cost to drive to Texas from where I'm at (KC area) and the fact that you spend about 2 days just driving (I don't have a lot of vacation time), it was more cost effective to stay in Missouri and pay a little more. In the long run, it is probably cheaper and easier for me at least. And we have a good time.

That sounds like a good place. I'll have to check them out and give it a shot. I know for us in S.E. Kansas, it's hard to beat where we are going. We usually leave around 6:00 AM on a Friday and come home on Sunday. We can get there around noon or 1:00 and that gets us two evening hunts and one morning hunt. The price includes lodging for two nights and usually a nice home cooked meal on Friday night. To tell you the truth, we are hunting until 12:00 midnight or 1:00 some nights so we usually just eat a few granola bars or some sandwiches. We don't usually sit down and have any meals :D

It sounds like we're going to similar places. We usually grab lunch before we get there on Friday. Then they cook a big meal around 8PM for supper. We eat for an hour and then head back out around 9PM and hunt until around 1AM or so. Hogs don't usually move in the mornings at the ranch so we don't get up too early and we have a big breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning.

You're probably in the same situation I am. I'd like to explore some other options, but what I've got going seems to be working just fine and I don't want to mess that up and take the chance on something that might not be as good.

I have been told that you can hunt them for FREE. You just have to do a little talking. A simple phone call to MDC and ask them where the last sighting of the hogs are and they will tell you aprox. where to start looking and asking.

They are shoot on sight animals, HOWEVER I know the website says that no permit is required BUT I have talked to a few wardens and they said that if it Deer or Turkey season you MUST pocess a tag to carry a weapon, you do NOT have to use your tag on a hog just have one to show a warden. Atleast thats what I have been told.
