I am looking at the Browning Barracuda W/ AMS Reel and Rest or the AMS Bowfishing Kit, which would be better, I shoot carp in creeks, and sloughs, water anywhere from 1-5 feet deep. Is there another bow that would be even better? New to bows, shot carp last year with a youth bear bow without a reel, if that tells you anything about my experience ... that was interesting... $500 setup max. Right now I am leaning towards the barracuda!

Thanks,
Royce

To me, 32" seems awful short to shoot with fingers IMO. I would think that any bow that is tall enough for fingers, fits you properly, and has a draw weight you like would work best. If I were set on buying new I'd probably get a PSE king fisher, but otherwise I'd score craigslist and get something cheaper. you don't need to spend much.

Hey man, if your not shootin a bunch of gar at deep depths, the AMS Fish Hawk is way better on your fingers. There have been a ton of comparisons on the two. They say the cuda hits alittle harder, but the AMS is 34.5 A to A so no finger pinch. Just my 2 cents

Welcome Royce!!

Let's be honest here..... $500 for a bow fishing rig?????

What I have done for years (30+) is the buy cheapest piece of crap I could find to bow fish with. You can find a old used bow with 60lbs or less draw weight (I prefer less than 50lbs) for under $100.00. A local archery shop can help you out with that.

I prefer recurves for bow fishing but that's just me.

Or better yet look at the AMS Fire Eagle I think its around 400 set up. That is a 40-50lb draw.http://bowfishingextreme.com/Bows/Bows.htm

me and my buddy use recurves with the ams bowfishing reel and we shoot off the shelf very simple and should be able to stay below your $500 price range

The best bow fishing bow is one that won't make you cry if you kick it in the river.

I have a couple old Bears I found on craigslist. I was able to pick them up for around $35 each. They work great, no complaints at all.

When it says 40-50 lbs does that mean you adjust it so it always shoots 40 or always shoots 50 or that the wieght depends on how far you pull back... I obviously don't know anything about bows but I want to change that.

The draw weight is adjustable but it will remain fixed once you set it.

Get what you want and feel good with. You will find you will love the sport and keep upgrading. So just by the best you can afford now the go up from there. My advise would be look into the AMS line and if you want to go top of the line get an Oneida Osprey. The PSE Kingfisher is an ok bow. It is just very heavy to carry and the handle is too small.
The Browning Barracuda is a good bow, but does have a track record for the limbs breaking near the limb pockets. From what I was told it is the glue in the limbs break down with water and weakens and lets loose. The company may have fixed this problem I hope. Just my opinion.
