At the mathews show this last year i was talking to a G5 rep and he was saying that guys were using the small game heads for turkeys and i was just wondering if anyone has used them and how'd they work for them

They would be illegal to use in Illinois! MUST be a barbless bladed broadhead design with a minimum 7/8" cutting diameter.

I would have to ask...WHY????? Unless they're head shooting them with 'em, it's pretty stupid if you ask me. They're hard enough to kill with a 1 1/4" or more head, why would you want one that's only 1/2" or so that won't penetrate?

Don't do it. I tried to head shoot a jake at 40 yds with a SGH. I shot way low and hit it in the body. The SGH did not penetrate hardly at all and the turkey ran off with the arrow dangling out of the middle of his body. I was flinging 470 grains at 67 lbs. with 70 ft./lbs. of KE and it did not penetrate. I felt terrible about my poor decision and it was the low point of my turkey hunting career. It is embarrassing to admit that I did something so stupid and I'm telling you on a public forum so you don't make the same mistake.

Even if we could use them.... I want LARGE Blades that slice not a small game head..... turkey are to dang tough!!!

well alot of times you dont want a quick pass through on a turkey. You want it to hit them hard and stay in them
Yes, but when that is the case.... you want to inflict damage through slicing and bleeding..... not possible with anything less than a sharp b-head!

so what broadheads do you all use for turkeys?
I'm a guillotine fan myself but for body shots I prefer Rocket or Rage heads. Grim Reapers look wicked as well but I have no experience with them. I'm going to try some Shuttle T's this year through my blind netting. I've always wanted to kill one through the netting but I've never given it an honest try.

It's all about......shot placement, shot placement, shot placement! Just like a deer, hit them in the wrong place, like the breast, and it doesn't matter what kind of head you're shooting.

I've never hit a deer in the breast before.

I had a guy ask the same exact question today. He wants to shoot the G5 game tips for turkeys. He wants to shoot them out of a crossbow though. I didnt have an answer. I have no experience with those tips, and but in my opinion, I would rather smack a big hole in a turkey with a broadhead, than shooting them with the tiny almost blunt tip G5. they work great for rabbits, but not sure on those tough turkeys
