Can anyone recommend a good fawn distress call and where to buy one?

Everything I have read about the fawn in distress call is that it should be used as early in the season as possible. I have one that is made by Quaker Boy calls and to me, it sounds like a party favor. I think using this call can go one of two ways:

1 - a doe hears the distress call and comes barreling in to save the day allowing you to shoot an arrow through her chest (5% or less chance)
2 - it sets every deer in the woods on edge and makes them avoid the spot where they heard a fawn being eaten alive (95%+ chance)

I'd leave the call at home unless you are hunting a spot you don't care about screwing up.

Personally i have had success with fawn in distress. I bought the M.A.D calls version. Screamin fawn i think it was. This has been 10yrs or better ago. I dont use it often but it has worked for me more times than not. And yes early in the season is good but it can work late in the year as well.

I had a group of does cross a power line and graze in a cut almost 200yds from me in Dec in MI. the 17th i think it was. I was only 17-18 at the time. I had read an article in a bowhunting magazine that morning about the fawn distress and it mentioned that late season can be productive as well. So i figured, heck why not? It was about 30 min till dark. I started on the call soft but loud enough for them to hear(and everything echos with open timber and 12" of snow). these few does quickly closed the distance to about 125yds and locked up. About 10 min later after they seemed to loose interest i said the heck with it and made that call scream. Them does were almost racing each other to find the source of that call. The lead doe made it to about 50 yds and i drilled her broadside as soon as she stopped. Turned out to be my biggest bodied deer dressing ant over 200#

If you do try it, i would recommend not using it often in a certain area and only a time or two per setting but be realistic with the call. Whatever you do though, BE READY. it happens fast.

Anyone else use this type of call?

Ive used a fawn distress many times early season, and had good results. also works well after the shot, to hit it again. More than once ive shot a doe using a fawn distress & blew on it right after the shot and have her freeze in her tracks, do the curly shuffle and drop, within eyesight, sure beats following a blood trail in the dark...

This call gets a lot of skepticism, and take it from me, i love using this call. Ibuse it just about everytime im in the woods, it works great early season ive called in numerous bucks and tons of does, one thing to keep in mind or well what i do i use the can i just turn it upaide down and blow on the little hole you put your finger over it. Dont scream on it jus blow for about 2-3 seconds and maybe a half second between calls. I call for 3-4 mimutes and stop they usually come right in after that and theyre not too cautious the just make a v-line straight to you. However they do come in on edge sometimes but most often they do not. When i use this tactic late season i tend to call in more yotes than deer

It's on my Foxpro for lion hunting in the open country...not for deer.

I have had a lot of success early with the Primos can call for years. I always have it. Some years it works better than others but it always seems to work. Lots of early seasons does have taken a ride in the back of my truck because of this call. I use the original can call, not the long distance one or the small one. Ive taken a few nice bucks with the same call as well. Cant go wrong. I would rather be more aggressive than passive as far as using a call. Works for me.

I'm very curious about this myself. Is it really that effective? I know some areas that hold a high number of does, so I could have fun with it if it works that well.

I saw a video a few years back, cant find it now, with a couple kids, sitting under a tree and using this call. Had a real nice doe bout run them over without even seeing them. She looked for a few, then saw the kids and bolted away. Ive called in a few does with it as well. Seems to be better during early season.

It looks like it would work. But we will see. And the way I look at it, the call was only $11 and if it doesn't work it's not like I'm out hundreds of dollars.

I use the Hands Free fawn distress ,and it does work , but you can beleive that when a doe comes in she is high strung , very alert

Where you able to take any does while using the call?
