Was reading about the person who shot the buck and hard time finding it. Said it walked away waggin it's tail. Some say a deer fatally hit will not do this. I have to disagree. I have made two fatal hits on bucks and one doe, I remember doing exactly that. The one buck stood there looking around as if wondering what happened, then walked away with the tail wag of ,,all is alright. I couldn't believe my eyes at the time! I found him, and them, stone cold dead less than 60 yrds away. Unusual,,but it can happen. Guess the blades cut so surgical that they didn't even feel it. Animals do have a high tolerance for pain.

Lone I've shot a couple deer that actually after being hit and i could visually see blood pouring out of the hole in them not only twitch their tail but put their head down and appear to be feeding, moving along some 50 yards and lay down.

Not sure if this helps, but most deer hit in the boiler room kick their back legs real high, almost perpendicular to the ground. The only tail wag I'm familiar with is the "flick" the give when they are relaxed. This is just what I've gleaned from my experiences though.

You are right about the kick, but they don't always,,especially if they are close, and a crossbow arrow zips right through. The relaxed flick is what I was talking about. Relaxed, as if nothing was wrong,,a few steps more, and they're dead!

I agree with you also lone. Ive shot a few deer also that flicked there tail back and forth only to find them laying dead within 40 yards. Ive also have shot deer with a 54 Cal. patched round ball through the boiler room and run tail up and find them dead real close by. I never go by "Well what did he look like when he ran away" You just never know. Just be confident with your shot.

I shot a deer with a .270 at roughly 50 yards once and the thing jumped a few times then stopped, looked around and walked over the hill wagging it's tail. Thought I had missed it for sure.

Walked over the hill to look for blood and there it laid. Hit right where I was aiming.
