Well due to some severe vision issues I am toying with the idea of getting a crossbow for hunting.

I am a complete newbie when it comes to crossbows and have very little knowledge about them.

Now the reason for my title, I put Mathews and Hoyt in there because they are know as the best compound makers in the industry, the "GIANTS". Obviously opinions will vary but that is the general consensus.

So what companys are thought of as the "GIANTS" of the crossbow industry?

Any brands to stay away from?

I held some X bows today, I really liked the way the Ten Point Tactical and Parker Tornado F4 felt in my hands.

I imagine buying a crossbow will be like a compound, try as many as possible before you make a decision. Just looking for some general info right now.

Thanks :darkbeer:

The top of the line award for crossbows would probably go to Tenpoint as far as quality and things of that nature. The most "bang" for your buck (speed vs. price) would be Barnett , and the ATV of crossbows would be Excabilbur because of less moving parts. I will suggest to stay away from Strkyer, wayyyyy to many issues.

Try to get your hands on the new TenPoint Stealth SS and shoot it if you can.

I just recently got into crossbows and I will tell you this, "I love my Tenpoint Turbo XLT II".....I killed a turkey with it a couple of wks ago....YOU WILL LOVE CROSSBOW HUNTING.....

You are doing the right thing by handling and shooting a few bows to see what "fits" you......Crossbows are like anything else, you can spend as much as you want on a bow......Speed is expensive, I don't care whether it's a car or bow and everything has to be perfect to utilize that speed.......Some may dis-agree, but don't get caught up in the speed hype, sure you need some speed but a bow shooting anywhere around the 300-320 fps will do nearly anything you it to do.....Whatever you do, go with a bow company that is known for good customer serivce, you may or may not need it but a "broke" bow is not the time to find out how good or bad the service is......Good luck with your endeavour

without question Ten point would be an Exact equivalent to Hoyt by thier product and business model . I am surprised they have not already murgred

Bowtech is perfectly Bowtech be it a crossbow or a compound.

Mathews is Mission, but in the current market comparison i am not sure

How long has Scorpyd been building bows?? When I think of Hoyt and Mathews I think of long track records and mountains of consumer feed back??? I would think companies like Tenpoint and Excalibur might be more the Xbow equivalents just based on what I've read and the consumer feed back I've found......

That was exactly what I was looking for when I started this thread and the reason I put Mathews and Hoyt in the title. Companys with a proven track record of quality bows, but in this case crossbows.

Thanks for the info so far guys, I appreciate it. Keep the replies coming.

Ten Point & Excalibur ...

Lots of literature and c/f on Scorpyd Crossbows if one's not blind to it...:thumbs_up

Lot's of blindness here...that's for sure. 93, shoot all of them that you can and YOU decide:) and BTW, be sure to shoot a Stryker 350 in the process. Talk to David at Wyvern for a dealer's input. He sells lots of brands.

Ten Point & Excalibur ...
That's what I think of when you ask about the Hoyt and Mathews of crossbows. Bigger, established companies. Bowtech is Bowtech. They are bashed and defended like no other, whether it is vertical or horizontal. Darton is Darton-great bows, no advertising, small market. As you have seen, some think Scorpyd makes the best crossbows, but they are a relatively small company. A few don't like them, never have, never will. It's like that with a lot of things on here, just like General Archery Discussion.

PS, impressive lineup of bows there, RH.:thumbs_up

In My opinion Tenpoint and Scorpyd build the best quality compound bows and without doubt Excalibur is King of recurves.....I agree with the others talk to Dave at Wyverns, he is a straight shooter and knows much more about crossbows than I ever will.................Good luck.............Hb
