I shot one a while back and once he was out of sight I heard a loud snap. He had a decent blood trail but could see him from the spot I shot him at. Initially I figured the snap was a tree limb breaking but when I found him it was obvious he broken his neck running away. He hit a twin 4" dogwood and dropped right there. The shot had cut his carotid and it appeared he lost enough blood pressure fast enough that about 3 or 4 seconds after the hit he was running at full speed and lost vision. Anybody else have any super quick kills like this.
How often will deer break their neck running away?

I shot a spooky doe at 35yds. She ran in a panicked run, with her head down, about 10 or so yards at what seemed to be light speed, straight into a big white oak tree! It broke her back in the middle of her rib cage. There was a huge offset in her back where it was broken. It was a 4 or 5 inch offset which tore the meat apart between some of her ribs.

Shot a muley last year that reared up on his hind legs and tumbled off a small ravine/cliff. hit bottom and never moved. while dragging him out it was obvious his back had broken. he bent in all sorts of funny directions.

I was hunting at the bottom of a bluff with a 25-30' drop one day when a doe ran over the edge at full speed. She sailed through the air like one of Santa's reindeer before dropping like a rock. When she hit the ground, she didn't move. Her neck was broken by the fall. I don't know if she was sending an "over my dead body" message to a buck chasing her or indeed practicing for Santa's crew, but it was the strangest thing I ever saw while hunting.

shot a doe, hit her in the lungs after i shot her she spun around so fast she broke her back leg( very loud crack), went across a cut cornfield with her back leg flopping. Found her just insde the timber.....first deer with a bow

Spooked a buck once he ran into a fence post, got up dazed, looked around for about 10 seconds, took off running again, caught his back leg in a single stand of barb wire which flipped him into the air doing a 360, landed, got up dazed and trotted of all wobbly! I could have shot him twice as this happened only 20 yds from me but i was in such a state of awe all i could do was watch!
he broke his neck,his back,his antler and his........:tongue:
