I'm solo hunting 95% of the time, and always have to quarter my deer to get them loaded in my truck. Does anyone have any ideas of rigging some kind of hand winch? Don't really want to spend a ton. thanks

How I load my deer into my truck depends on their weight - if they weigh less than 120 I use 1 hand, if they weigh more than 120 I use 2 hands. Try using 2 hands, you may not need a winch.

I've got a Jet Sled that I use to drag deer out of the woods with. I use 2 6' 2X8's as a ramp to get it up inside my GMC Jimmy. I just put the boards on the bumper, get the sled on to the ramp and push it up into the truck. Getting something like that into a pickup box may need longer boards for the ramp but the sled slides up very easily.

Cheapo harbor freight , let me go snap some pics - wait here. - ok , got it for $80 and some extra wire
then i plug it in to my trailer wiring plug in . I also have a ramp that they slide up but i dont have it out yet. It pulled a 335 lb. bear in as well . My age and back got sick of loading deer alone all the time .

Nice. I'd use a come along to wench it in the truck though. After dragging I'm tired.

if possible according to the terrain i have dragged them to where i can back my truck up to a slope that's level with my tail gate and then drag the deer straight in. a truck receiver mounted winch is what my buddy uses, but they run around 150 bucks. if you look here on AT there are some ideas on DIY winches. Kill shot makes one that runs about 125 bucks and is a 360 swivel.

heres a link to a post on AT.

Hitch hauler you don't have to lift them much at all. If you want to put them into the back of the truck I'd use the 2x8's with a sled should slide pretty easy

Man you guys are over thinking this. This a easy one. Just wait until they get in the back of the truck before you shoot them. A 2Ă—4 for them to walk up and a bucket of corn in the back. Problem solved.

Seriously though I used to use a piece of 1/2" OSB and a come-along. Cut a slit through the back of both rear knee joints before the tendon. Run a rope through, hook the come-along to it and winch them up. Scrap OSB is free and the come-along is 19.99 at harbor freight.

just bought a skinning rack from an ironworker in fl. a basic hitch mount but was showing me how to swing a deer into truck when you have him cranked up to skin. can send you a pic if you pm me. its a two piece with the 2" square tube to insert into the hitch with a solid 1" pin welded on. the top is like 1 1/2" pipe and slips over the pin.thus giving it a swivel point.not a good explanation but the pic would show how it works....

I must be overworking myself, I open the tailgate, reach down grab the horns, head if a doe and simply pull into bed of the truck. If I can't reach the head or horns I always keep about 30 foot of rope in the truck to help myself.

I use a ramp; it's a 2'x7' piece of plywood with 3 2"x2" supports nailed lengthways to the underside, I kept them about 3" short of the end of the plywood, that way it sits on the edge of the tailgate. It's a modest enough angle that I was able to load the 3.5 year old buck I shot this year, solo (northern canada deer, decent body size). The one I shot 3 years ago took 2 men and a lady though. A rope helps.

I used to keep a piece of 2x12 in the truck about 8 ft long. Lay it off the tailgate like a ramp, drags the deer onto the board, pickup the board and push it into the truck bed. Works like a charm, looks like scrap lumber so nobody will steal it, and it's basically free
