I have an opportunity to trade for one of these longbows but I have no experience with them at all. In fact, I have never even heard of them.

Does anyone have experience with this bow to share? How is the grip? How is the shelf cut? Is it noisy? Felt vibration at shot? How accurately do you shoot it?

Thanks for any input that you might have.

Doug

They are a higher end Bear Longbow. Designed by Byran Ferguson - Classic slight reflex/deflex design, sturdy and durable. Nice bow but at full retail on the expensive side.......my take anyway.

I had one an didn,t like it at all . well build bow an well finished to me it was slow an I didn,t care for the shot feel. Enjoyed the montana alot more. It,s has a heavy riser which should be a good thing but something about the bow it wasn,t my cup of tea. I got mine used an sold it for only a 25.00 lost. I wouldn,t pay full price there is alot better performer for the money. Also thought the bow was a little loud for a longbow an had a custom string made for it also I was disappointed with it. You don,t hear alot about them. If you find a good deal on a used one maybe you might like it verybody is different in there likes an dislikes. I,ve owned about 15 different longbows an the bear patroit was a big let down.

Doug forget to tell you about the shelf pretty weird it,s like rounded away from the side plate. The top shelf is like a u shaped. Never seen another riser shelf like it. The riser it self is pretty nice but a strange cut on the shelf. Hope that helps forgot about that.

Yes I think the shelf was cut like that puts the arrow farther out from the side plate so you need lighter spine arrows. The riser is well made I personally didn,t like the way it shot. Think the montana was a much better bow an lot better value. But everybody has different opinions an likes An thats a good thing.

I didn't make the trade even though I was tempted. I sold the Martin and am saving up for a new Maddog longbow. I think it best that I remain in the lower 40's in draw weight as I am only in my 7th week of shooting. I have heard nothing but great things about Mike Mecredy of Maddog as a boywer and am excited to receive my new Mountaineer.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

You'll like the bows from Mad Dog, Ive shot a couple. I have a Bear Patriot that is 60#@28" I picked this one up at a shoot, it was a missed weight (5# over) and I got it for a trade + some cash. at first yeah the string it comes with sucks. I got an SBD string that is 10 strands with the puff silencers and put the brace at 7.5" wich is a .25" over what the company asks. I pull it to 29 inches and shoot a 614 grain easton Axis arrow w/250 grains up front. it has the faintest of a thumd sound when shot and it took a lot of trial and error work to get it there. I am glad I did, it shoots great!
