I am planning a elk hunt in September. Has anyone or does anyone hunt Unit 60 in Colorado and could let me know access routes and how the hunting is? My dad hunted this unit for years and the last time we went (12 years ago) we were told that our access route was now private property and we could not use that road again. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, my brother and I are wanting to get our dad back before he get too old!!

I have looked at maps and talked with both the BLM office and Forest Service. I know of one road that is not private property that will get us to the north side of the forest. I was trying to see if anyone else had better ways.

From the looks of it that's a pretty small area. I doubt too many guys are gonna pony up info on such a relatively small area. If you've gone over every type of map you can find and spoken to local FS guys then that's probably all you're gonna get. I've never been over there but if it were me, I'd look at access from the Utah side.

I know. My dad hunted the unit for 20 years and the last time we went I was 10( I'm 25 now). My brother and I are trying our best to get him back there one more time before he can't. It's going to be a challenge but it will be part of adventure!

Check out Paradox creek for access. I don't know if you can get thru but it looks like you can. Not a lot of access into that very small unit and even smaller huntable area. It might have sentiment but I think I would find greener pastures for dads last elk hunt.

In guessing dad used to hunt south if John Brown. All the access there is now in the hands of the Discovery Channel. You can still get into the USFS from the south. Not easy.
