I'm looking at the ONX Maps (huntinggpsmaps)and was wondering if anyone has used the Google Earth aerial views with the ONX software. Can it be overlayed over the Google earth view so you can see the Aerial view?

I looked on their site but I didn't see this feature or option. I'm looking at a new Garmin Montana GPS.

If you get the huntstate for google earth, it overlays whatever you have open on ge. Set the transparency and you can see thru it so if you have a topo map server running on ge the onx will put the pub pvt over it.

Their google earth stuff is not for a gps unit.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not so concerned with Private public as I am to have the ability to see Google Earth or a similar aerial view to show all the mapped tanks and waterholes I marked. I was looking at the Garmin Birdseye software.
The Garmin site states : "Allows you to layer vector maps on your handheld (such as TOPO 100K, TOPO 24K or City Navigator®) with BirdsEye Satellite Imagery for a real-life view of roads, buildings and terrain"
I'm not so sure after looking at the ONX maps that they are what I want as they look like a really basic topo map.

I bought the Garmin Montana 650 so now I need to set some mapping software for it.

Here's another way, if you just want some general aerial maps - Go to Caltopo.com, select the aerial imagery layer (not Google Satellite, downloading is not permitted). Center map over your area. Click print, select the area to want to export and then download the KMZ file. Then just follow the directions for installing your custom map on the Garmin (pretty much drag and drop). The nice thing about the Montana is that is allows alot more custom map tiles then most other units.

The map quality will not be as good as Google Earth or Bing aerials, but you may not notice when it's on the GPS anyway.

Garmin now sells state land status "chips" that are full state maps similar to onX but the Garmin version also has the full state of Birdseye imagery on the sd card. About $80 last time I looked.
One thing to note, I have a multitude of maps and sat imagery files on my montana and when the rubber meets the road, I use the huntinggps map sd card. It's not as clean as a raster map but the huntmap has a whole lot more roads. The sat imagery is great on a 17" laptop but in reality, out in the woods on the montana screen, it didn't do much for me and I don't use it anymore.
If you do want a map and sat imagery, the whole state sd cards from Garmin will be hard to beat.

We have discontinued our Google Earth products for computer viewing.

If you want Aerial imagery on your GPS your best bet is Garmin Birdseye or using the method such as from CalTopo.

As far as the Garmin Hunt View maps we have a comparison of the products here so you can be better educated when making a decision.

Tagged. Thanks for in Formation.

Somehow I missed this the first time around.
I can see 2 scenarios where I would be using these OnXmaps on my GPS;
1) in the mtns on Nat Forest
2) in whitetail country; Ks, Mo and such

Seems like the regional map would be a better value but it doesn't show landowner boundries- right?

So i'm thinking a regional map for the mtn states....and the state map for places with patchwork private land, eh?

Can you put the GPS chip in your computer and view on a bigger screen?
[I probably should give OnX a call.....]

yes you can put it on your pc. its called base camp you can save all your data from gps and plot new routes and such from the pc.

Here is a link to our Premium vs Regional chip: http://goo.gl/OR3vRK This should explain the difference between the two. I will also add a link to our coverage for each state: http://goo.gl/Bc6EtJ
Our chip is a plug and play product. Just put it in your GPS, go out and play, come home and plug your GPS into your computer. Open up Garmin Basecamp (free download) and you will be able to view your waypoints, tracks, and our map on your computer.
Let me know if you have more questions as I am glad to help.

Thanks
