I was burning a lot of dead branches and sticks and yard debris on Saturday night and didn't realize there was a bunch of poison ivy in the brush pile I was dismantling. It took a few days but now I have an annoying breakout of it and also in a spot that I need to be out of eyesight of people if I scratch it.

What can be used to knock this stuff out fast? I just rubbed my arm down which is the worst spot with apple cider vinegar and it did a great job with the itch. Anything else?

I had it for a week and went to the doctor and he prescribed prednisone for it. I had it for a total of 2 weeks but I think the perdnisone did definitely helped for sure. Also did use 1 cup of baking soda in a bath several time which helped also. Good Luck.

Nothing really helps mine except prescribed drugs. If I get it bad enough, they'll give me a shot and a pill. You GOTTA be careful burning that stuff. It can get into your lungs if you breathe in the smoke, and that can be really, really bad.

Probably a lot of home remedies on the web. So far I've been immune. Waiting to see if I still am after pulling a ton of it off a silo yesterday. Got to be careful with smoke. I knew a girl that had it internally from being downwind of a burn.

Lol, glad I saw this. Reminded me that I intentionally rubbed some on my hand and arm a couple of weeks ago to see if I was allergic to it, since I've never had it. I had forgotten about it. I guess I'm not.

My mom used to pour bleach on mine when i was a kid. It dried it out but burned pretty bad. I looked like an indian doing a war dance when she did it. I dont get it like i used to but i always just put white stick deodorant on mine and not scratch it. It usually goes away pretty quick.

I get it terribly bad. I was turned onto Technu years back. If you get into it, wash with this stuff as soon as you get back and it does an awesome job getting into your skin and removing the oils. Can also be used to wipe down clothes, rakes, shovels....anything that contacts it. It is expensive, but it works. Clorox has also worked for me.....scratch it open and poor the clorox on.

Prednisone if you want it gone quick. I shower whenever I come in contact with it. As long as I do this within maybe 1/2 hr, I'm usually good to go. Wash anything else that came in contact with it include rakes or tools. Oil will stay on everything.

Thanks for the advice guys. So far the Apple cider vinegar has really knocked out the itch so that's a good start. I've got it mostly on my right arm but I have a little patch above my left eye just below the brow, a small spot on my fore head, a small spot on my right temple, and… Well since I was outside burning all the stuff and I was drinking beer, I had to take a leak a few times and… well, you get the idea.

Zanfel is the only thing that works fast but cost $40 for one ounce but so worth it..might have to wash it three times or so like every 8-12 hours
I saw that stuff at the drug store yesterday. $44.00. I thought "aaahh, it's not that bad. I don't need that". I think I've changed my mind. ;)

Mite burn a little but bleach will dry it out pretty quick..and as mentioned above plain white stick deodorant after the bleach quit burning and shud dry up in a day or 2..or just go see doc and get ya a shot prob less painful than the bleach

been having the guys do this at work for when they get in it!

Take a cup and fill it with water and then add some salt and stir it up take that and get your arm wet

From there take a hand full of salt and start scrubbing the area that has the poison ivy on it

it'll be gone in about 2 days its worked for every guy here at the plant that i've told to do it!

Before the rash or does it work after the rash appears as well?

I've got it right now from hanging stands last weekend. I picked a few stalks of Jewelweed and cut them into small pieces and put them in the blender with about a cup of rubbing alcohol. Then, I blended it until it was very fine and poured it in a bottle. After I shower, I pour a little of this tincture onto a paper towel and apply it to the rash. It stops the itch and also dries up the rash. Jewelweed is easy to identify and grows prolifically in damp areas around the Appalachians.
