Arrows for wife pulling 30 pounds?

What like some opinions on what arrow my wife for hunting.she has a chill sdx pulling 30 pounds with a 24.5 inch draw.just wondering because ontarget says around a 700 spine but would the arrows be to light for hunting?just seeing what other comparable set ups are shooting?thanks eddy.

Looking at different arrows. Would the goldtip velocity pro in 600 be to light of an arrow for hunting? Looking at them the kenitic 500 spine and the easton axis 500 they would have a little more weight? I need an arrow for hunting and 3d. Thanks

First, make sure there isn't a minimum DW for bow hunting in your state, I don't hunt, but I know many states have such limitations.

As for arrows, take a look at Black Eagle Carnivore Ultralights... Don't know the spine, but they are rated "30-50" which would be borderline stiff for your wife's set up. I have a set of these, build is 27.5 carbon to carbon, standard BE nock, Vanetec vanes and 80gn points... Arrow weighs 272gn and I get 307fps out of my D350 at 45# and 28.5"

Another 4" of the shaft would reduce the weight by almost 24gn, but I would guess momentum and kinetic would limit you to small/medium game (white tails perhaps), so keep that in mind.

Heavier BHs (say 100gn) will give mr FOC (think my setup is around 10-11%).

Spine is not the critical. Since it's for hunting you need to look at a heavier arrow. For a 30 lb bow I would look at 10 gn per lb. so a 350 gn arrow. You need to build this weight up with correct spine by increasing foc. Get at least 200 gn up front. That's with either a broad head or inserts or both for building this weight.

Do not use mechical broadheads. Go with a good cut on contact wi.th bleeders. Phat heads are a good one. Try to get above 20% foc higher is better. Blackeagle carnivores are great arrows for this light gpi.

She will be limited to distance. 10 maybe 15 yards. Max. But it's bow hunting and up close is why we do it.

Thanks our state i believe has a 30 pound requirement. I am just wondering if the arrows she is shooting are to light they are a 600 spine at 5.9 grains per inch cut to 24.50 inches . She doesnt seem to pattern to good with them. Just wondering if a heavier grain arrow would be better for her set up with hunting and 3d . Thanks for all the input!

If she is having pattern problems it's either her or the tune.

What is your wife's bow IBO speed? Was looking at one of those calculators online and figuring a 300fps IVO and a 300gn arrow and the site did not recommend hunting, that there wasn't enough energy for an effective harvest.

Thanks enewman. Dont no my wifes exact speed but ontarget says right around 208. Says its way to stiff of an arrow and under 20 foc like enewman stated. If i put in 150.00 grain arrow weight up front with 100 grain tips for a total of 250.00 It shows just about perfect arrow flight but you lose about 30 fps.do they make arrow inserts that are that heavy and would it be good to lose 30 fps? Just wondering.

^thise specs are for a 150 tip weight, select a .204 shaft and put some Easton Brass HITS and use a 100 grn head

Try to determine what draw weight she will end up at and buy arrows for that. My wife started at 30 lbs and is now at 35. I think she will end up at 45 so I bought 500 spine arrows for her. Right now they are insanely stiff but they still tune fine.

ok ,for hunting your wife needs a heavy arrow, my wife is a 25 inch draw pulling 38 lbs and I started her with a gold tip 500 shaft and she had very poor results on deer with this set up. I have her now shooting Easton ions 500 spine with a 75 grain brass insert, feathers and 100 grain broad head, total arrow weight is like 389 grains. I myself believe short draw/low poundage shooters need to have a arrow with very high FOC (so a lot of the arrows weight is concentrated in the front) / slim diameter arrow lower drag and feathers as they will lay down going into the deer for a lower drag. she has had outstanding results on deer with this set up, she shot a big doe quartering away at 15 yards and the only thing that stopped the arrow from exiting was the off side shoulder blade. keep her shots at 20 yards and under and if you do go with a very heavy arrow work with her on judging yardage, it will drop fast...
