Have a look at Ron Staceys 2 Play and 4 Play releases. He has numerous releases with closed jaw and safeties on them. His releases are solid , crisp and last a life time. Shoot me a PM and I can get you in touch with him if you are interested. BTW I am shooting a 2 play and a 4 play that I have had for close to 20 years and they work today just as well as they did when I bought them.

thanks for all the replies.

i'm starting to warm up to the idea of a hook release but still want a quiet one. the hardcore seemed really loud with an audible metal on metal click as the trigger releases. is there a way to dampen this with an o-ring or are other brands quieter?
I shot a couple scott mongoose for a lot of years, one finally got too old, so I decided to try something different, ended up with a spot hawg wise guy, been shooting it the past 4 or 5 years and love it, but scott is top notch, if they make something close to what you have used, I don't see a reason to switch. I certainly didn't become a better shot when I switched releases, just had to get comfortable with a different one.

there is nothing out there that will blow you away, you have been shooting a release in the top of the pack. sticking as close to what you are comfortable with already is a good choice.

that being said, hooks are fine for spot and stalk, I have never been in a tree stand, I have killed everything off of the ground, mostly by sneaking up on them and killing them, and I have had no issues with the wiseguy.

Carter 2 Shot is one of the best caliper index triggers I've ever used after my Scott Wolf. Now I'm shooting the Scott Rhino, a hook, I didn't like the Hardcore so much.
The Rhino I understand, like the Wolf, is no longer in production. Once you use a hook, be it the Hardcore or something else, you'll never want a caliper again.

I shot a Scott Rhino XT for years but recently purchased a Tru Fire Hardcore Max. My Rhino is now my backup and it is astonishing to me how much better the Trufire is in trigger pull and crispness. The Rhino in comparison is 'terrible". Was a lesson learned in how technology has advanced over the last few years.

I bought a Scott Mongoose xt this year and love it!
