I’m wondering what’s the most efficient cam system currently besides the ecs by pse

Bowtech has a nice cam system that is a breeze to tune but the cam loves light(er) arrow and not so much heavy arrows.

Obsessions are nice but the same cam system doesn’t like heavy arrows. IBO tends to drop.

I love shooting arrow above/around 500 grains. So far PSE seems to maintain ibo. Mathews as well. But Hoyt bowtech obsession are the ones that don’t really care for heavy.

Any ideas?

Best system for weight is lever. Quick snappy stuff doesn't work so well. Which basically means ibo isn't a good indicator of whether or not a cam is good for heavy arrows. IBO for my Oneida is under 300 yet it can sling a 1025gn arrow 157 fps at 55#/28".

I don't have the Chrono readouts handy but I'll post them when I do.

Good question. There used to be an engineer Norb Mullany that had a column in one of the magazines measuring the efficiency of the cam systems.....I haven't seen much of anything that compared to that since [the 1990's]

It seems there was a lot that went into Calc'ing that out. Some bows had high bow hysteresis- essentially friction that hurt performance- even though they had radical cams. I would like to know the answer to your question too....if anyone still tests these bows.

That’s true but I look at ibo for a sign of good judgement. 340 ibo at my draw length and around 400 grains 70# it should be about 300 FPS most wont do that. So I don’t expect it to hit ibo with a 575 grain arrow

I shot for Oneida back in the early 90's.....I can tell you they are not the most efficient cam system.

like I said, there are many factors....but the weight of the cable system matters. Oneidas cams not only move the cables....but they also have to move an outrigger limb section....the adds weight hurts their efficiency.

Now, they are fantastic bows to draw...but not as efficient as the modern compound designs we have now.

:chortle: PSE seems to maintain ibo. 500 grains.:user::nono:

I shot 520gr arrows out of a bowtech destroyer 340 at 285 fps. that bow shot a 350gr arrow at 335 fps with all the junk on my string. I have had pretty good luck shooting heavier arrows from bowtechs. my current D350 with barnsdale limbs at 80#, 30" shoots 641gr arrows at 275 fps. i'm not sure how that stacks up ibo comparison wise, but i like them.

I don’t think anybody can even come close to the PSE Evolve cam right now. Started setting up a evolve 35 for a bud last night with the fl mods. 70lbs set at 29” dl flinging a 433gr arrow at 307fps. He said that’s faster than the rx1 turbo he demoed with a 420gr arrow. Show me another 35ata Bow with a 6 1/2” brace height shooting them numbers and I’ll be impressed. Btw the draw was still butter smooth and my shoulder usually hates 70lb bows and now I’m kinda regretting getting a 60lb evolve 35.

My old evolve 35 with target let off mods set at 65% was shooting a 554 grain arrow @ 265 FPS 27 7/8” dead 70.

According to the calculator I should be shooting 244 FPS

I’ve said it before but that 35 with the fl mods is like a speed Bow and a target Bow had a love child and you get the best of both worlds. I can’t put mine down and I’ve bought and sold a xpedite this year and still have a new stealth that’s collecting dust cause I can’t hardly talk myself into shooting it with that 35 next to it.

I’m tempted to get another one

My obession with a 402 grain arrow fell short about 10 fps but with my 740 grain arrow made adjusted ibo speed, I was surprised since obession has always been under ibo for the 5 I've had, my prime hybrid LD will shoot a 578 arrow 273fps 31"cams, with 1/4 peep, d loop, larger Saunders kisser and two string leaches on string. I'm not sure what that ibo comes out to be never ran those numbers or weighed the items on my string on the prime and it's 70lbs limbs

A good friend of mine that’s on here has a PSE xpedite that shooting a 656gr arrow at 258fps at 72lbs 29” and 90% let off .that 367ibo so evolve cams love heavy arrows .
