Looking for some opinions/field tested reviews of either insulated boots: Danner Pronghorns 800g or Irish Setter Elk Hunter 800g

Anyone have experience with either boot?

I'm looking for something that will work for mid-to-late season stationary and mobile hunts in the Midwest. Will probably put some miles on them this season so comfort and durability is a must.

Some waterproofing is nice, but I have kneehigh rubber for wetter conditions. I think they both come with goretex, though different models of the irish setters have 'Ultradry'.

Looking at wider sizes too, so if you have boats for feet, how do they fit? I tried a pronghorn in size 13 at regular width and felt just a little bit of pinch in the toe box. I think a wide size would be perfect, but wasn't able to try on the elk hunters.

Anything else I should know about these boots?

What do you like, dislike?

Danner Canadians or try the Cabelas Meindl Hunter 800 gram boots. Come in wide sizes and the Meindl bots feel like sneakers! They are my favorites and carry a lifetime warranty.

I’ve got the pronghorns. Mine are the 1200 gram insulation and I’ve got the 13s. I’m normally a 12 wide and the 13s fit great and allow for me to comfortably wear a liner and a thick wool sock.

My stands are typically a quarter to 3/4 mile walk, and they’ve always been comfortable for me. Going on 3 or 4 years of use now (mostly mid-late season) and they still are in fantastic shape.

I have 400 gram pronghorns and very happy with them hunting here in Michigan. I normally wear a 14, but I ordered these in a 15 so I could wear a heavy wool sock once it gets real cold out

I've got the elk hunters. I normally wear a 11.5w in shoes, and bought a 12w for a little extra room for winter socks. They are my most comfortable pair of boots. They are made by Red Wing.

Since purchasing the elk hunters, I have bought nothing but Irish setters or red wing brand boots. I now have their rutmasters for rubber boots and wear red wing Worx brand safety toed boots every day at work. When your on your feet all day, either on the stand or on a steel boat deck like me it pays to have comfortable boots.

Not quite ready to step upto the Meindl's. I can use some cabelas bucks for the pronghorns or elk hunters. I can find the elk hunters really cheap on ebay, but they are the non-goretex version, which i'm still unsure if that matters or not.

I have pronghorns in un-insulated and 400gram. I wear the un-insulated here in Nebraska until October typically and then switch to the 400s until late November or early December. Then I have some other boots in heavier insulation levels. I really like the Pronghorns. Very comfortable out of the box and they do a great job keeping the water out.

I got both pair of mine about 7-8 years ago though and since then I think they stopped making the pronghorns in the US which may have changed things.

Ok so got to try on the elk trackers at local cabelas. Way too narrow for me. I'm afraid even with a wide size they'd be too narrow. The danners I think are a winner.

Question: The 13's felt about perfect. I even got to try them on with my cotton sock and a heavier wool sock on and they still didn't feel too bad. I'm wondering if I should still size upto a 14 just for a little extra room, or if that's unnecessary?

If you plan on wearing these when it is cold out I highly recommend a size bigger just so your feet can breathe. I usually loosen my boots up once I'm in the stand and the 400 gram with good wool socks have been great down into the 20s for me
