I have 2 reinhart broadhead bucks, I love them. I shoot them long distance a lot no issues, I set a bag target behind it about 4 feet if I am shooting long distance. If I miss completely it's always low and it
Catches it.

It’s a cool looking target for sure, but definitely not realistic for elk comparison.

I’d rather buy a realistic sized deer target, or a Mackenzie Elk target, as they are somewhat believable lol.
I own 2 Mackenzie Elk Targets, a Rhinehart Moose and a few others.
The realistic size, is important to me. Can’t stand those dwarf/pigmy targets![/QUOT

It is to represent a 60 yard shot on an elk when shooting from 20 yards. :secret:

Vitals are where the vitals are and no small or big target will change that. Like a 6' man is different than5'... Each situation is different, if you shoot enough you become a machine to a point and know where to stuff the arrow if its a Moose or Skunk, FACT!

I actually like the smaller deer targets because its harder to aim at and if you can punch those little suckers at distance than the big ones get easier to me at least!

Rineharts are the best. If one is looking for something to shoot the crap out of and suffer little damage would be the River Bottom or Broad Head Buck, the Mule Deer for Rienhart is a beast body and rack looks crazy real!

I understand size and cost are prohibitive in making a true lifesize elk, but doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? Why not just practice on a deer target and save some money?

does anyone make a full size kill zone elk? front shoulder to front of gut, but with all the detail and appropriate height (I think the height is as important as anything, you don't realize how much 'dead' space a mature elk provides above it's vitals) and markings? I don't need the head and rump (never said that before).

Wouldn't you shoot the real elk at the actual (ranged) distance it was away from you?
Believe it or not people use to kill a lot of elk without rangefinders. People rely too much on hunting gadgets. You can't buy hunting success just by acquiring a gadget. I have one, and sometimes they are useful, but there are often times when it would be counterproductive to use it. One should develop basic hunting skills that aren't dependent on gadgets. Shooting all year at that thing would train your mind and muscles to it. When a shot opportunity arose all that practice time would be telling you that elk is closer than it is.

Now if you practice with a block target or deer target, your subconscious mind will know that the real elk is different and your experience ranging elk without a rangefinder gadget will kick in.

I totally agree with your statement in terms of building muscle memory etc, and there are down side to gadgets by giving people confidence to do what they can not, like shoot 80+yards on a target that could move 5+ feet by the time the arrow gets there... the plus side of gadgets is it should reduce guess and therefore reduce wounding. IMO gadgets are the not problem, it's the people using them doing stupid stuff. It's like saying there are more utv accidents and blaming polaris for making 1200cc engines.. The gadget is fine and should help accuracy, confidence and reduce bad shots, it's the people that screw it up. All my opinion.

LOL, that's simulated weight.
:ROFLMAO: OK.....that was really funny for a house-bound bowhunter during a blizzard.

Axe....you just pretend that elk is 70 yards away while using your 20 yard pin. At least for me, the idea of a 3D target is to simulate the size of the animal in relation to a typical shot situation. I have two 3D deer, a bear and two turkeys....get them lifesized for best results.

Gadget or not, if I am shooting at an animal I would hope to hell I’m shooting at the distance I think the animal is. Shooting at smaller deer targets all year for MANY years has never caused POI to be anywhere other than where I’m aiming. It just forces me to hit smaller targets when I’m practicing making the real thing that much easier. Might not work for all but it seems pretty simple to me. It could be a pop can and it wouldn’t matter.

Mc Kenzie core replacement has the vitals and front leg. https://dmtargets.com/?s=elk&post_type=product

I ordered one last week. Needed a new target for back yard , I will never order a Glendel again they are trash.

I got the elk because why not. I got free shipping from the ebay sale. However just got told they are back ordered from reinhardt until april.

I had a buddy pick me up a blemished mini elk this past weekend at a trad shoot in Tennessee. I just picked it up from him today. Nice little target that will go great in the backyard. Its smaller than most 3d doe targets I've seen. Should be fun to shoot at, will make a 20 yard shot look like a 60 yard shot.
