Maybe put this in the hunting section or your state specific forum?

not many close to there. I Think i saw an rv park on the east side when i was looking at google maps once. and off 70 to the east I saw another one. might call local businesses and ask if they know of any.

You might be able to camp at one of the parking lots.

Reform sees a ton of pressure because it's only about an hour from the St. Louis suburbs. It's a big area though so if you're willing to put in the miles you'll find quiet spots. I've never deer hunted it, but I go there a couple times every winter to rabbit hunt.

Thanks I’ll call and see what I can find out. Lot of pressure in mid October you think? I’m not dead set on the reform. Would actually rather somewhere that I’d be able to camp in or close to public land. Just heard good things about it. I hunt the Sabine national forest here in east Texas so I know all about pressure and having to put in leg work.

If you're going to drive this far, you might want to take a look at Indian Hills in Scotland County. It's as big as reform, and a lot of it can be difficult to access. It's packed during rifle season but bow season is pretty quiet.

I’ll definitely look into it. Kind of hard to figure out going in blind. But have the vacation time this year and have never hunted anywhere but east Texas so it’s more for the different terrain then filling a tag.

Reform gets a lot of pressure, mostly from guys with dogs running rabbits. There are a couple of small campsites very close, one is just across the road from Reform adjacent to a bar & grill. If you look at a map, the campsite is on Hwy O right before you get to CC.

I've rabbit hunted it and dove hunted it. The rabbits are super educated, so that tells you rabbit hunters pound it. Expect to walk and get in some small corner to get the deer. A lot of MDC land gets pounded hard. 3 other CAs I've hunted for deer was covered up in stands and hunter sign deep into some hard to get to areas. This was in mid and late OCT, and one or two trucks in the parking lots during the week.

I could see MDC allowing only one buck limit on state public land in the future in some CAs. Being if you've taken one buck anywhere in the state your off limited to taking your second buck on that CA. And I could see them going to one buck only for non resident. There's very very few that tag two bucks, however I could see them doing this to appease the "out of staters killing all our deer" crowd. When in reality, the stats down lie.

Yeah I expect a crowd. Just going to do my best to not bother anybody and if I tag one cool, if not a bad day hunting beats a good day at work. Will enjoy being in the wood/new terrain either way. You can run dog on it during deer season?

If it’s rabbit season then yes. I used my dog up there on the dove fields on Sept 1st. I’m sure if there’s a season in which you can hunt with a dog, then dogs will be used.

Just to clarify, you cannot use dogs to hunt deer. You can use them on the property for rabbits, quail and doves. FYI - they planted a good sized field of sunflowers at Reform this year across the road from the power plant.

That’s correct. Unfortunately I won’t be doing any dove hunting this year due to an injury. Reform is usually packed opening weekend. Birds fly through a gauntlet of shot.
