How many people have use the golf ball trick/ or some other method to help make skinning a deer quicker? How well does it really work? If you could post some pictures of your setups that would be great. I've always done it the old fashion way by hand, but am looking at trying to make the process a little quicker and easier.

It works quite well but you need to make all the correct pre-cuts and the skin peels off like a condom…..
I’ve never tried this method but I’m interested. Any YouTube videos out there showing this process(including the proper cuts on the hide)? Once I have the hide off from the deer I get everything else done quickly and efficiently, but it takes me a while to skin the deer.
Thanks!

I did it once with a rock, chain and a polaris. Chained the deer up with the tractor bucket and pulled with the ranger.. it works fine. Make sure you have a driver and a "deer holder".
it'll pull the carcass near sideways and come swinging back quick if the skin gives at the legs lol.

Cape cut around the neck, connected to cut down both front legs with a circumferential cut around both knees. The cut along abdomen connects to both hind legs with circumferential cut around both knees. hand dissect a pocket for the ball and tie to a vehicle and slowly drive away from the hanging deer. Make sure your rope is strong.

Works yes, faster is questionable. By the time you find a rock, rope, back up an atv or truck I can have the skin off. Almost tore down our skinning rack trying to prove myself wrong though.

The biggest benefit in my opinion is less hair on the meat.

I just cut around the neck and both knees and that's it. It's not necessary to cut up the leg. It will de sleeve itself without that (and saves a tiny bit of time.

I’ve used golf ball too. I’ve also tried the air gun method. Both work but I still skin with a knife a lot of the time. I hang by gambrel cut inside of back legs skin around hinds cut tail off and pull hide down

I did it just a couple of days ago and have done at least a dozen this way. Either way will work but I find that slicing the hide down the back bone works a little easier. The golf ball goes under the hide underneath its chin. Skinning the neck down 7 or 8 inches should give you enough hide to work with. Best to do it with two people because when that hide pulls free, that carcass is going to swing. If you're doing it by yourself, best to stop before it releases, Back your vehicle up to where the deer is hanging straight down and finish it up by hand. Easy peasy.

The fastest and easiest way I have found is to drop the whole thing at the processor.
I don't disagree, but when you harvest and process several deer a year it adds up quickly. I started doing all my own processing years ago and it has paid for itself many times. Plus I know how the meat has been handled.
