Side question, does anyone know of any of the vortex lineup other than the razor 4000 that reads tenths of yards? From what I've found online it looks to be the only one in their lineup that does but hard to find a solid answer!
On Thursday Vortex dropped a new line of Rangefinders.. Looks like the Diamondback and the Viper version both read tenths of a yard as long as the target is under 1000 yds away. Darnit. I thought my bank account was safe for a while.

Dammit Nico! I was hoping to hear none were available and save my wallet [emoji2357][emoji28]

I used a <$100 Simmons when I first started in 3D and like several have said, black targets in the woods don't range. And, it was always a yard different from the others. Not a big deal but not being able to range dark targets made me upgrade. I chose the Leupold RX1400i and am very happy. It's nice when the others ask ME what the correct range is instead of me asking to confirm with them.

Had a Bushnell scout 1000 dx worked great. Thought I’d upgrade with something that had the red LED. Bought a vortex 1300 from cabelas. It wouldn’t range dark colored 3d targets and this was at 20/40 yards. Took it back and got the sig kilo 2200 and it works great.

I just called Cabelas and they say the 2000 or 3000 new models do not break down to fractions of a yard..dang it

Correct, per their website the crossfire, diamondback, viper, and razor all do....so of course local shops only have the most expensive razor in stock haha

Get the Razor 4000, it's fantastic, don't worry that it ranges so far, now you can get a long range rifle and the Vortex 6x36x56 scope and you are all set to go!

This thing is awesome....took it to the archery range tonight and LOVE the reticle and how fast it is! Even was able to range a distant water tank at 2307yds in normal mode which I'm impressed with!

My only complaint is the case, it's very sturdy but access is a little wonky with the zipper and it tends to flop open when opening it while mounted to my bino harness! Makes me think its falling every time which isnt the best feeling when trying to grab your $500 range finder. The bungee that holds it closed when not using the zipper is solid but i just dont like the angle that it opens at....I'll probably upgrade to a top loading case like my old vortex has, just seems more solid for getting it out and putting it away quickly in my mind!

Love my vortex ranger....buuuuut for archery shoots not having decimal readout is enough of a disadvantage that I'm considering upgrading....
What do you mean a decimal readout. Like a 00.X? If that's what you mean it's really a moot point because 99% of them have +/- 1 yard accuracy. So that .4 or .8 etc might make you fell good but it's worthless because it exceeds the accuracy of the rangefinder.

Plus even at a shoot is .X of a yard going to change anything?

Correct, measuring in tenths of yards

I've had it make a difference when the 12 ring on a short distance target is the size of a quarter or smaller, theoretically with my old range finder it could say 20 when it's actually 20.9 and with the +/- 1 yd of that one it could be 21.9 while still reading 20yds. This would make it almost 2 full yds off which makes a difference on a small dot, enough difference to be outside the 12 ring anyway! So the new range finder I bought measures in tenths and is +/- .5yds at distances less than 200 yds which I'm happy with, and ranges longer distances for when I'm rifle hunting or trying to plan a stalk!

For hunting its less of an issue, but for 3d shooting the difference can add up quick when the ring sizes are very small!
