As stated before we have some of the Titles in at Demmer Archery Center at Michigan State. One of my JOAD kids has purchased a new Title in Black. We installed Hamskea peep in it. After shooting about 10-15 times the peep has started to rotate, giving it a chance we reset peep, and it has continued to rotate. In my opinion these strings are the same as the old Zebra's. Same song different band. So don't believe these are the best strings they ever built. Since then we have ordered some new GAS Ghost strings. Wondering if anyone else has experienced the same.

10-15 times and rotating?

Are we not giving them 100-200 to settle like we do everything else?

I use Catfish string and all they need is 10 or 15 shoot and they are good to go, if I had to go 100-200 shots to settle a string
this day in age then they get the review called JUNK STRINGS

I honestly figured they were just zebra strings with a new name on the heat shrink like stated above. I don’t see Mathews paying someone else for strings when they make their own, and all they have to do is change the name to make people think they are new strings

My factory zebras have been decent tbh not amazing but not trash imo. Yes the cables stretched some but they werent horrible in other regards.

I have a theory why zebras get such a bad rep. On the cc/2 and sw cams one twist in/out of the cables goes a very long way to advance/slow a cam. Ive had a bunch of cc2 and sw cam mathews and pretty much always find myself between twists trying to get the stops to hit perfectly because a half twist moves the cams so much. My pse e2/ec bows and hoyt hbx cam bow took way more twist to move the cam just a little and I never found myself between twists. So when the cables stretch a little it makes it seem like they're stretching way more. Also one turn out of the limb bolts on a mathews is like 4-5 lbs of DW which is way more than most other bows out there. So taking a little load out of the limbs does a lot more that the others. Combine those two and a little stretch puts you way out of time and 3-4 lbs down on weight. Same amount of stretch say on factory pse strings and is way less dramatic.

Just my observation from tuning and setting up all my bows throughout the years.

I mean, if we really want to criticize their new strings, just look at the twists in the cables going to each of the yokes. As well as the wiggle in the string under the servings (and the obvious unserved end loops).

Do I care right now? No, since if anything goes wrong I can just get my dealer to go back to Mathews. As long as they hold timing and don't twist on me, I'm fine with "beta" testing these as I'm not a competition shooter making a living shooting my bow.

There may well be new processes and new equipment being used. The issue with Zebras was never the raw material, only how they were built.

manufacturers in general (e.g. cars) do manage to switch from building unreliable models to newer, much more reliable models. They also make gradual improvements to build quality of a given vehicle/product by incorporating new processes, technology and controls.

I suspect Mathews is being completely honest about having made some changes. They have new machines in use, for example. However, are they gonna be perfect? No. Are they likely better than Zebras were? I see enough comments from people I respect to conclude that on average, they are considerably better (but still not perfect). Heck, ask for comments on ABB or 60X or whoever and you’ll get some negative comments. You’ll still find some for Gas, which seems to be considered one of the more reliably solid custom builders.

What makes you think that the same group of Mathews Zebra string builders are going to wake up tomorrow morning and start building top quality strings.

That’s a bummer; however, it is also a sample size of one and may not be representing of a ‘typical Match strings experience’.

I’ve had some awesome Zebras, but know that’s also not the full story (I’ve also had some stinkers).

I typically replace all stock strings and cables before setting up a new bow no matter what manufacturer. This go round I decided to give the Match strings a chance because hunting season is over for me and I wanted to see for myself if they were an improvement over the Zebras. Through personal experience I have come to the conclusion that they are definitely better than Zebras. However, my Lift will be getting a set of new strings and cables from my custom builder well before the start of next season. My Match strings have stayed perfect as far as stretch/ twist is concerned but serving consistency and quality are a little suspect. I had to replace my center serving within days of setting up my bow.

The set on my new Title settled within a couple of shots after installing the peep and haven’t moved at all in 300 since. Time will tell, but these are nothing like Zebras. They’re very low wax for starters after being heavily burnished to remove any excess. Zebras tended to be quite waxy. My bow was timed perfect out of the box, so looks like there was no movement after manufacture. Not one of my TRX was in time when I took it out of the box.
