Good morning everyone!

When I was little I would shoot bows and arrows across our neighbors yard with my brother and friends. Later I would get a subscription to the Traditional Bowhunter magazine; wow did that excite me. I was living on the Gulf Coast then and I started gearing up and practicing for bow season. Every year that bow season would come around work would ship me off to one shipyard or another and I never did get to put all my practice to the test. Needless to say I have yet to finish my archery story.

After a couple of years of general gun hunting (yes I finally made it a field) I have decided for next season I want to give it a go with a bow before GG opens up. I have from now until September to get geared up and get my skills to where I feel confident.

Welcome from a fellow Floridian. Deer hunting down here ain’t easy, especially on public land, but is extremely rewarding nonetheless.
2.5 years hunting the swamp in south florida and yet to dart a buck lol it is incredibly difficult. Seems like the deer down here in the south do not have much patterning, and when you do finally figure it out, they are somewhere else hahaha

I have been looking here and eBay for a used bow. Don't want to break the bank with a new bow but I want a bow from a good name brand. If anyone is from South Florida and know of a good bow shop that might sell second hand bows I am open to recommendations.

I did a walk about in Big Cypress last week just after GG opened up 🤣😭. Spent 2 hrs in standing water, ankle to knee deep. It was pretty out there but looks like I am going to have to drive further north next year.

I have seen plenty of deer and hogs. Just havent had a quality buck come close enough to where i am hanging. I wear my snake boots walking in that end of filling with water. I will bring a fresh pair of socks and i have xtra tuff boat boots that i throw on when I 1 stick up a tree so my feet arent soaked all sit lol Goodluck out there!

Skull Hill archery in Okeechobee, great service and a good selection of used bows. For your first I wouldn’t buy online, go to a pro shop and let them get you fitted and set up.

If you want a deer you have to get in line down here! The cougers, bobcats, gators, pythons, and yotes get first pickins, we just get the scraps. It’s amazing there are any deer left in south Florida with all that’s out to get them…

i know... The other evening as it was getting past legal shooting light, I heard coyotes barking and howling... first time ive ever heard them since i started hunting the wetlands. I am used to it when im out west in the mountains. Damn things scream out there all night long but not in south florida. was pretty wild

Trust me, they let loose all the time down here. Heard two groups of a dozen or more last time I was hiking in to a chunk of public near me. I hear them behind my house in the suburbs anytime a train horn goes off at night
