Hey all looking for some assistance with Ropeman 1,2 or Kong Duck rope clamp. When to use what? Do I need 2 (one on Tethr and one on Linemans?) if someone could clear that up.

I personally use a Ropeman 1 on both my Tether and Lineman rope. This system has worked well over 100 climbs. Never once had an issue with it slipping or any other issue. I would guess most Saddle hunters use a Ropeman 1 on their tether. I still see guys using a prusik knot on the linemans belt but I think the Ropeman 1 is a much better solution.

I'm using 8mm ropes for my lineman and tether so I use a Kong Duck. I chose it because it will work with both 8mm and 11mm which covers the most common sizes. I stayed away from the Ropeman 2 because I read a lot about it chewing up ropes quickly. If you are only going to be using 11mm ropes the Ropeman 1 is fine.

As far as how many, that's up to you. Some people prefer having a prusik. I use the Duck on both ropes for my setup, unless I'm one-sticking, where I use my Madrock Safeguard on my tether.

i find that a prusick with a tender is fine for my linemans rope beause it never sees the same load as my tether. the prusick on my tether would get so tight once i sat into it that moving the knot became a 2 handed operation, even with the tender. late season i switched to the ropeman 2 on my tether and find the reduced drop length to also be advantageous over a traditional prusick.

my switch was late season with only a hunt or two, so i cant comment on rope wear. using 8mm rope.

There’s also some good knots to use instead of the mechanical devices. I use a compact JRB ascender hitch on my tether. Holds well, and can self tend with a bit of effort. Seems like a lot of people jump to a ropeman or a duck because the basic prussic knot you see everywhere kind of sucks and they don’t know about other options.

I didn’t know about alternate friction hitches either at first but the devices were cost prohibitive to me so I did some research. I’m not knocking the mech stuff, as long as it’s used in spec I’m sure it’s a great solution if you don’t mind the added upfront cost versus a few dollars of accessory cord.

I mostly ask y’all cause I feel like they would be easier to adjust on a linemans since various tree sizes and needing to suck to the tree at times or be more away from the tree.

The Duck is definitely faster and easier to adjust on my linemans.

I have an 11 mm linesman and use the ropeman 1. I make a lot of adjustments when setting sticks and platform. For the few adjustments I make to my tether while hunting I have been fine with a prusik and tender.

Go hang from your saddle in the off season. You don't have to climb and try and perfect your movements/ how you think you want to move with what you have and see if it works for you. That's what I'm doing. My neighbors probably think I'm nuts, well I am so who cares
Good point. I wouldn’t say I did that much last year so solid idea. I really want to figure out new sticks or kick the tires on one sticking.

I have used the Tethrd bridge with a Ropman & was quite happy with that. Then I gave the Buzzard roost offering try & to my suprise I actually prefer the simple 8mm Teufelberger Resc Tech Rope. Adjustment is made with an Amsteel Prusik.

Now I hav grown to prefer to repel down from the tree at the time for decent. Madrock safeguard has been my preferred method for climbing & decent.

I have the ropeman 2. I bought it by mistake not knowing about the pointy teeth on the mechanicism that grabs the rope. I looked at it and thought it would do the same thing as others are saying and that it would tear up the ropes. I was right with the 11mm rope tether. It snagged and didn't feed well, mostly when I was trying to lengthen the tether.
I bought an 8 mm rappelling rope and tried it on that. It works very well. I've been using it for at least 2 seasons now with minimal wear on the 8mm tether. This includes probably 50 climbs if I had to guess.
The ropeman 1 works great on the 11 mm ropes. I wouldn't be scared to buy the "2" if you found a deal on one of them though.
Good luck

Ascenders are mostly intended for kernmantle. There's nothing wrong with the Ropeman 2, you're just using the wrong rope with it or using incorrect technique to remove it

I mustn't have written that very well. What I meant to convey was my initial impression was that the ropeman 2 wouldn't work well but I found out the opposite.
