Hey all, purchased a z7 extreme. 28.5” draw length, but it’s set at 27”. Get the 28” or 28.5” I heard Mathew’s ran long that year. Secondly, need to swap out the rest. It’s not an enclosed drop away but I need to set it as well. I would like the tightest fitting, no need to set, full capture, drop away rest. If it were you, what would you recommend?

Are you saying the sticker says 27 but it has a 28 cam installed? Yeah all mathews draw long from the 1990s bows to todays models anywhere from 3/8" to 3/4".
No sir, sorry, the cam is a 27” draw. I myself am a 28.5” in most bows. My Hoyt for instance, prime, bear, pretty much always have been at 28.5”. But since this era was long I figure best to go 28”.

z7x was my last single cam bow and it was a good one. i traded it fer a no cam and was sorry i did that. me personally would opt fer the 28" cam if yer a 28.5 DL

First - it's a Z7 Xtreme not Extreme.

The 28" cam will be close to 28.5" actual draw length.

What is your budget? You can get a very nice, made in USA (Wisconsin) aluminum, CNC machined sight from Pro Hunter (Nova Green Monster) custom colors with light for $70. OR you can buy a $400+ CBE. OR a Garmin for $1200.

Most will say QAD rest but I personally had issues with the 3 I had. NAP offers a nice drop away for $70. Hamskea is popular.

Also the draw cord for the Ripcord rest on that bow need to be much longer. Attached to the cable lower than the grip.

On the bows I currently shoot. Rest: NAP Apache Carbon - Ripcord - Whisker Biscuit.

Sight: Toxonics - Pro Hunter - HHA - Black Gold

I agree hamskea. They also just came out with the Everest which is a slightly cheaper less fortified version of the epsilon, but also lighter. Both epsilon and Everest keep things tight and more behind the riser. Trinity is a little wider.

I hunt with the same bow and they are 1/2 inch long. I have a QAD on mine that hasn't given me any issues but it is an older model so no recommendations on the newer options. I will say that those strings look like the stock ones so I would swap the strings when you change the cam. I also have a 28" cam somewhere around the house I would potentially part with if you can't find one anywhere else. It took me 6+ months to locate a 29" cam when I was looking.

Ahh the only mathews i ever wanted…until the Lift
The Lift is phenomenal, I more or less just wanted a flagship single cam that was awesome for its time because it’s so smooth to draw. And, wildly enough, it’s still quieter than the Lift and Phase 4 from the decibel readings I’ve seen in videos. I could be completely corrected, but that’s what the videos I watched showed. And at 330 fps, the z7’s are still up there and running smooth.

What do you mean by no need to set? As in you don't need to click the rest up or lock it up in place? If that is the case Hamskea would by choice, either the trinity or Epsilon.
Yes sir, that’s exactly what I mean. Sorry for the terminology. I have a hamskea on my Hoyt and that is what I like about it, but mine seems larger and bulky for the Z7. So I wasn’t sure if there was a smaller version of the hamskea that fit better on the Z7.

I think I may currently have the trinity on my Hoyt and that’s why I feel it’s big for the Z7. Good call.

I have found 28 on eBay. Just at need to be sure I buy the correct one.

I got you bud. Yea Hamskea makes several smaller versions of their rest now, check them out, they are priced good as well. You will find a lot of love for the vapor trails as well.

Yeah like others have said you will need a 28. Once you have the d-loop you will be right on your draw length. Had to the same with my traverse and my sons switch back xt.
Rest wise I like vapor trail limb driver rest super simple and very effective the best limb driven rest out there …

Thanks for all your input. A lot of great advice there.

Hadn’t seen those rests, I’ll look into them now actually. Yeah I’m going with the 28”. Better just short than too long.
