2024 Illinois Archery Season starting out great!

I get 2 archery tags and 2 firearm tags as a landowner from IDNR. I filled both on doe already! I can go get an additional buck/doe combo tag over the counter to keep going during archery season. Pretty decent bucks showing up on cams and one real nice one that I saw right as it got too dark to shoot. I literally listened to him 15 yards away eating persimmons in the dark.

I’ve always had the goal of filling 4 archery tags before firearm season starts, and this feels like the year it could happen! I absolutely love my Bowtech Eva Shockey set up. Very reliable bow! I shot this doe at about 15 yards, one lung and liver shot. She ran about 30 yards and went down within view. It’s so nice when you don’t even have to track!

So far I have 2 doe, 1 seven point buck and one hen turkey for archery this year. I have one buck tag left and I’m being really picky with it. I’ve let a lot of small and medium deer pass. I have firearm tags also, but I would much rather fill an archery tag than firearm. Gun season starts Nov 22, so I have a little time left!

My friends & relatives are taking a few. 5 in the last 4 days. Since mid Oct., 6 bowhunters have tagged 4 Does & 7 bucks.
