How many of you use Google Earth for getting land layout information?
I got into this last summer and printed out wall-sized maps of the areas I hunt and it is awesome. It helps for scouting, I can show my wife what property I am going to hunt on any given day, plus it serves as a record ( I marked each past kill with a pushpin) to look for any trends or what not. Some of my friends think I am too obsessive about it, but I really helps in many respects.

I found one of the tree stands that I would be hunting in Kansas before I even left Texas....

It's pretty cool.

I guess your talking about "Flash Earth" right?

You have to pay the $400 for the full subscription before you get clear pictures of everything..

Google Maps is nothing more than a smaller version of Google earth.. Use that for anything you need, it's just as easy and free. It's just not as easy to get full sized maps if you want them

printing

What I did was take individual prints from sections of the land at about 800 meters elevation. This provided the best clarity and detail. After printing, moving over, and printing again, I cut and taped the maps together and laminated the whole thing. My pictures appear to be about 3 years old, but for forest layout and roads, it is fine. I can even pick up perminent deer trails that cross the muskeg I hunt.
Also-Color prints are 1000 times better.

Gotta second the Google Earth program. It's free and it's got lot's of options as far as what appears on your maps.

Also, if you haven't looked; try Nasa's World wind maps.
They've got the best Topo maps you can find. Click on the Topo Setting at the top of the window and you're there.

If you zoom in on a wide view it gives you a general topo view, the closer you zoom in the better the topo gets.

Best of all both of them are free, just down load them.

Yep, I've used it. Very nice tool. I also use Terrain Navigator - both help.

Good luck.

i used it to wall paper man land down my basement! they have a newer version out for free, it's better. all my spots are printed out and lamenated. i use it for trapping as well.

I use Google earth along with a gps software that has a very good 3d topo system

Oklahoma wildlife

the wildlife dept. has a page where you can go anywhere in Okla. and zoom in and see ponds, elevation, contours of the land, etc.
