Bringing this over from Gen Archery section for further discussion.

Just bought a new Diamond Black Ice and had a 30" module put on it. There was no valley at the factory 8.2 stop setting. The BassPro tech set the stop to 9.4 and the valley and let off feel good now, but the manual says not to go over 1/2 mark from the 8.2 factory setting. I'm worried I'm going to damage the bow if I leave it here (already notice some cable fray with only 100 shots, see pic).

Measured DW is 60# and it is shooting well, though I am annoyed by a slight twang on release.

I called Bowtech and the tech on the phone explained a few things that could be causing my valley to occur at 9.4.

1. Cam timing is off ( Nope, I have 2 dots just above lower limb as required)
2. Check string and cable lengths. (looks good, measured ATA is 32", BH is 7.5", DL is 30", same Tiller on each limb)

Since these seem good, he gave me one more option;

3. DP1 module is mismarked (I need to check it against another DP1 to see if they are the same size--how often does this happen?)

I'm at a loss. I am OK or should I take it in?

Stopped at BassPro at lunch, and the DP1 module was identical to the ones in the shop. Tech there says it is not a problem to be set that high, even though the manual says otherwise.

So now I am at a loss. Do I keep shooting on the overly high post setting and hope I am not doing something bad to the bow, or do I send it in to Bowtech to look at?

Maybe you are just trying to get too much valley/let off out of the bow. I know my Diamond Marquis has a very narrow valley and max let off is 75%. It's how they get the speed without a really ugly draw cycle. It doesn't bother me because I like to pull pretty hard into the back wall, and the back wall is rock solid.

With the shipped DP1.5, and factory stop setting, the bow's valley was sweet, but DL was too short. With the DP1 and factory stop, there was just the beginning of letoff, no valley really. The tech agreed and set the stop higher, and now there is the same valley as the DP1.5.

I really don't want to send this bow in, it is shooting very well right now.

shoot it

if all your spec's are correct, bh, ata, pds, DL, Tiller, ect....ect... Then just shot the bow and quit worrying about a draw post. they mean nothing...:darkbeer:

ata

My Black Ice ATA is set at 31 3/4". Thats the way it came, and the older Bowtech pro shop web site had it listed that way also. The poundage is right on , and so is the timing. So I have always wondered which ATA is right. 32 or 31 3/4. It is a sweet shooter so I have no plans of changing it.

Is 2 dots above the lower limb correct? I have mine set up with 1 dot above and one dot below the limb. Does anyone know what is correct?

My 07 BI has one dot on each side of the limb.

I did a pretty good search through the forums. It seems that everyone has called Diamond and got different answers. Some say 2 above some say 1 above 1 below, and I even found posts with some one saying 2 below the limb. Everyone Diamond I have ever seen has had one on each side of the limb. It just makes sense to me to have it this way. If it was 2 above, then what is the purpose of the 2nd dot? The distance between the dots is also the same as the thickness of the limb.

Are the 07 and 08 BI bows different on the timing dots? IDK

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck James

Let us know what you figure out.

I was told there are 3 dots on the Black Ice. 2 are above the limb, and one behind it when tuned. If you see one on each side, it is because the middle dot is hiding behind the limb. I think the confusion is that on some other bows from Diamond the dot locations are different. 07 and 08's are the same.
