Summit stands have a 300 lb capacity. API has some with a 350 capacity. What about getting a buddy stand, they are rated at 500 lbs.?

I don't know many fixed position stands over 300 pound rating, but here are a few...

The Chippewa is probably your best line, with some stands rated @ 475 lb weight capacity:

Definitely check out this bad boy, has a 500 lb weight capacity:

Summit

I'm there with ya (285 lbs) Big Red. :D

I just bought a Summit Copperhead X5 last week. It's rated for 300lbs, but only weighs around 11lbs.
So far, I've only set it up at ground-level, but it seems to be very comfortable and sturdy.

I didn't care for the safety harness that came with the stand, so I bought a SOP Fastback from Summit for $50, and it's sweet!!

WRONG!!!

Check out Screaming Eagle stands...Here's some words from the site..linked above.

Weight: 14 pounds. Seat height: 25". Platform is 25" wide and 24" deep. Welded, unpainted steel. Five feet of chain. Installation instructions included. Weight capacity -- We have tested the stand to over 4000 pounds…no other stand can hold that kind of weight!

STRONG: Ours is the strongest stand in the world. Try hanging a car from any other. Note that ours has no human weight limit

They used to have a pic of a volkswagon hanging from it, but I can't find it anywhere now...

FYI most stands have weight limits for liability reasons, and will hold a lot more. Not suggesting you ignore them.

But I have ignored the 300# limit when there were no other options.
Manufacturers use a factor of safety for setting weight capacitites.
Say a manufacturer uses a factor of safety ot 10, that means for every 1# of advertised rating, it must be tested to 10#. So that 4000 pound tested Screaming Eagle, might not be that much stronger than other stands with advertised weight capacities.
Do a reality check. If it was 10 times stronger than other stands, you wouldn't be able to carry it into the woods.
Did you see the Ford commercial with the F150 hanging from a single bolt?

Another thing to think about, bigger guys, tend to be over 6' 2", that means these stands with fixed seat height are not the most comfortable. It is good to find one with adjustable seat height and a wide seat. Otherwise, you should sit in one before you buy it.

Gorilla makes nice seats.

One word of advice STEEL (not aluminum)
Another word, CHAINS (not those little cables)

THis sight might help, www.supermagstands.com (I don't have flash on my computer, so I don't know what it is)
