going from a five inch feather on a 2018 to a 1916 shaft. wondering if I would be better to go with a four inch feather over a five inch feather? reason I ask is that the shafts came fletched with four inch vanes. thoughts??

Out to 40 yards it will not make any difference.

When I shot trad a lot. I used 5.5" Banannas.

Yeah....it got pretty ugly when they started to peel!!

Seriously, The 5" feathers may be a little more forgiving, but I really don't think you will see a difference between the two.

What BH are you using?

How is your current arrow flight?

i personally have always liked and got better results with 5 inch feathers on my 2315s. I dont have any experience with the shafts you are using and know that a lot of people will tell you that the 4 inch feather is all that you need, but i know for me nothing works as well as a 5 inch feather on a helical.

thanks for the quick re's. I'm shooting a 50# amf hawk recurve. I'm using a thunderhead 125 or a steel force 125. I'm not sure yet. thunderheads fly well out of this set up (with the 2018s) I have the 1916s stripped down, but nothing else done with them.

Anywhere from 3" to 5" would work well.

If you're shooting shorter distances out to 40 feet (not yards), go for the biggest feather. After that, I suspect the larger sized feathers would start to slow your arrow down and the larger they are, the noisier they are.

Easiest way is to try 3, 4 and 5 on a few arrows and see what works best for you.
