My early season didnt pan out this year. Early storm pushed all the deer out of my area. While looking for a spot to hunt during Christmas break I ran across another hunter who generously put me on one of his spots. Set up the blind, used the cordless to screw it down and brushed it in. Got the Big buddy in there and started hunting. Temps were lows of -25 but evenings were around -15 so hunted then. A lot of fawns, does and small bucks the first night. Second night same but busted some out. Night 3 nothing but a fawn showed. decided to give it one more go. New years day.Nothing came in early. With about 10 minutes of shooting time a fawn came in. It would look back occasionally and I kept hoping a buck would show. Suddenly there were 5 fawns and then a buck right in front of me. I drew and had to let down because the arrow had jammed between the rest and riser. Got it straightened out and let fly.
Waited a bit and got out to look for sign. No arrow, no blood. Called my buddy and we went back to town for an hour. Back out and still no sign. I went down the trail and there it laid with barely any blood. Both lungs and the arrow hit the far shoulder and stopped. I was a happy camper not to have to eat a tag.
