This morning I was out feeding the mules when I saw a flash of brown hair from behind some logs on the edge of the pasture. I had seen this big boy hanging around lately. He would come in and feed on the leftover grain when the mules were done. Since I had my bow on my quad I quickly grabbed it and and then began a very slow and methodical stalk towards the log pile. I used every bit of cover that I possibly could and actually had to crawl across some of the more open terrain. When I got to a spot that offered some cover I nocked my arrow and began to slowly inch my way the last few yards to get within shooting range. I saw him start to move but in one fluid motion I drew, touched my anchor point and released. I watched that camo shaft snake through the brush and bury in his chest. He did not go even five steps and it was over. I sat there in awe, I could hardly breathe. This hunt had been less than five minutes in total length but it had felt like a lifetime. When I finally got my heart rate back down and the shaking of my legs to stop I went over to admire my trophy. It was 32 yards away and certainly one of my better shots. This is one adventure that I will surely remember for a lifetime. I hope you enjoy the picture.
P.S. The photo is a great example of not needing fancy camo or scent blocking clothes. Just keep the wind in your face and the sun to your back! GOOD HUNTING
