The low pressure systems that came off the ocean during Thursday night caused an awful lot of green acorns to drop. Will the deer hit them or are they too bitter in their green state?
Yes, deer will eat them green! I had to cut down a large white oak in WV Labor Day weekend, hundreds of green acorns in the yard when the tree hit the ground. Deer out there all night, next morning only a handful of acorns left. It's amazing how many they can eat! As for trying them yourself,,, they are bitter even when they're ripe!(brown)
I was hunting in KY last weekend. The wind was rough there when Ike came through, looked like a war zone in the woods. Looked to me like the deer were mopping up all the green acorns that had fallen.
