A bowhunting related question. After you have gutted your kill, what do you use to re-sharpen you gutting kinife with? A stone? Files? New gizzmos? I tried that criss-crossing hand held circular file thing from Cabelas and it was crap! I do not own a stone and would need to learn. But what works best? What is easiest with great results? or what is hard work with great results? thanks

a stone works best in IMHO.... go to buckknives.com and get the directions for sharpening... They are the most easily understood directions I have seen yet. Also, when you buy a stone, a lil piece of plastic comes with it to help you keep your angle... throw it away! It's useless.

Sharp

If you're working on your field kill and need to re-sharpen I use a diamond stick. It's quick and light weight and a few strokes and you're good to go again. At home after hunting I use a file, hone and then strop. Follow the link. We talked about this a few weeks ago. Good info...

I also use the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It is the best sharpener I have used besides the Edgepro Apex (but that unit is very expensive). The Spyderco will put a razor edge back on a knife in a few minutes and with little sharpening skill.

Does my hunting and kitchen knives lickity split. Not worth a hoot on serrated edges, but I could read the instructions.

I use a Lansky Sharpener. Fast and easy with razor sharp edge! I also use this sharpener for my replacable broadhead blades.
