I was curious if anyone has put out Alfalfa bales as a deer attractant in the winter months. If so, any luck?

We, we'll not I, use it a ton in the UP of MI. That said, we get 3+ feet of snow on the ground, deer migrate, yard up, and live off of cedar for most of the winter. The alfalfa is appreciated by the deer and doesn't last long. A know of a few instances where a round bail lasted less than a week. In most cases, they're on it within hours.

All that said, do some research of winter feeding with alfalfa and hay in the winter months. In some cases, it does more harm than good and can actually kill deer.

I'm not sure how good it would work outside of the far upper Midwest. Put your location in you profile so we can see it when you post.

Deer love it and it works. Seen them race to it here.

Hard to find here.

Up North in Saskatchewan that is what most outfitters use for there sites during the season and they also mix in peas (which is like candy for them). The best thing is oats over the winter months as the fibre helps the deer. Corn/Wheat which are high carb can be detrimental to the deers health.

Google "Feeding Deer Winter Ontario" and there is a good article about feeding over the winter months

They won't hit bale's of Alfalfa here in Ohio unless the ground is frozen and there is snow on the ground for several days. It just sits otherwise. I had bale's last year that are still there this year with the light winter we had.
