Time to rant---

I am sick and tired of people killing little deer and saying "it was a good kill" or "any buck with a bow is a good kill". Can we put all these people in a room and let the buckshot fly.... Here in Oklahoma you can kill anything that walks pretty much, and the State wants nothing to do with changing anything that will hurt license sales... God forbid we try to manage the doe herd and grow trophy bucks..

Then I have to deal with this - We found a yearling shot yesterday on my farm with a rifle from the night before--- [email protected] [email protected] road hunters spotlighters........

I wish "the people" could do something about it....

Talk to me... Let me here it...

SHUT THE HELL UP!!!

Most of the people that shoot little deer have a reason, and ANY deer is a trophy. People LIKE YOU plain piss me off. I will shoot bucks 3.5 and older once YOU get all the people to stop poaching trespassing and get people to do QDM. But on the 60 acres I hunt I may see a 1.5 year old 8 or 6 and If I dont shoot it and put some meat in the freezer then I may go buckless that year. And I would 99% garuntee you that deer would get shot by one of my neighbors by the end of the season. True hunting in itself is a way to put food on the table. Just killing big bucks is a bonus. And you have a problem with people like me, then kiss my ***** because I cant do QDM on 60 acres and all the land surrounding us wont do QDM either. I saw we put you in a room and let the buckshot fly!

Gimme a Break

Not all of us are Trophy Hunters. We don't all have the time to put countless hours in the woods scouting for "Mature" bucks. Some of us have to take what we can get. So go ahead put me in a room and shoot me with buckshot because I shot a five pointer this year. I agree with you that road hunters are sorry but don't take it out on everyone else. I've got a key to the perfect room your talking about, just ask I'll give YOU the master key. Shut up and rant about your road hunters not about what other people put in the freezer.

Oklahoma Law

Says its legal. If they want to shoot a spike they paid for there hunting license. When the last time you attended a meeting about the game laws.
Oklahoma wants money, end of story.

Ill bet we shoot some 40lb does tommorrow. If they dont shoot them, Im going to be upset. I need does taken period. ;)

Let's see 1st post...trying to raise He%%...yep someone probably trolling. Now to reply...Which animals I choose to shoot and which I let walk are MY decisions. As long as it's a legal deer then I'm happy for whoever took it.

Wow. That's one way to make an entrance. Don't suppose the last time you walked into a biker bar the first thing you shouted was "Harley's suck!" was it? :D I'd agree with the previous responses that road hunters and poachers are terrible. The idea that people shooting young deer should be shot themselves is a little tough to swallow though. So long as guys aren't hypocrites about it (talking a QDM game and then smoking "mature" 2 1/2 year olds) then I don't have a problem. Got anything to drink down there??

Not a great way to break the ice, 1st poster.
See my last post in NY hunters thread, about people taking (or not)
personal responsibility for their actions. It was widely ignored, as
sometimes the truth is rather brutal.

I got my sense of ethics as a begining hunter from the hunter ed. courses,
hanging out here & tradgang- Before I'd hunted much. Only *YOU* can
decide what is ethical within legal limits. Take responsibility for *YOUR*
actions! I won't shoot a button or spike, but will gladly take does. Those
are *MY* ethics, formed by what *I* felt was right. That does *NOT* mean
you have to conform to them, *YOU* decide what is right. (within the legal
limits) I don't shoot deer in the face, some people would. Is it legal?
Probably. Would I paint you lousy for doing it? YES. Would I say you are
wrong, to take a spike? NO. Holding people to your own standards is hard.
Judging them is even harder.

YMMV

A "trophy" has a different definition to everyone.
Some of us just dream of getting a deer regardless of gender.
Some want a buck
Some want a huge bodied deer
Some want a huge rack

Really depends upon what we have taken in the past.

For many of us, that first archery deer is still on the list, for some of us who have taken several deer with a bow, a large rack is in order.
I don't know anyone who has shot a nice 8pt and wishes for a 6pt.

Everyones definition of a trophy or sense of accomplishment is a personal perspective.

Hell I know guys who have taken Huge 12pts and shot a doe on opening day, and I also know guys who pass on nice 8pts and does regularly because they are smaller than what they have taken in the past, and end up getting skunked for the year..its all in what you want. To some it is about the meat, to some it is about the memories with family, and some its about eclipsing your previous acheivements.

I once was told by an older fella who taught Hunter Safety course that there is a pattern to a hunters sense of accomplishment..and it seems about right to me, Most of us take our first deer with a gun(not all of us) and seek more of a challenge in 1 of two ways...we either begin to specifically hunt for a bigger deer(bigger rack, or bigger body)to satisfy our desires, or make it more challenging by going to archery/black powder.

So you see, not everyone is an antler hunter, but I will say that the "dream" of shooting the big one is what drives the industry..as well as great game management. This is how Game & Fish gets its funds to stop poaching and improve the deer herd's health. This in turn also reduces motor vehicle/wildlife accidents and saves lives.

I hunt deer, all deer and have taken many more does than bucks, but I dream of shooting a mature buck under difficult circumstances such as a long shot or tiring stalk. This would give me a sense of accomplishment to remember for the rest of my life and regardless if it makes any books, as long as it seemed like a big one to me and my hunting friends, that is all that matters to me.

That's what I was thinking also!

As "thehairlessone" said, It sounds like your problem is with poachers, not hunters. And as far as the "I am sick and tired of people killing little deer and saying "it was a good kill" or "any buck with a bow is a good kill". Can we put all these people in a room and let the buckshot fly You'll have to remeber that not everyone lives/hunts in an area where alot (or any for that matter) of trophy bucks live, so don't criticize what others shoot until you hunt the areas that they hunt!

My first bowkilled buck was a spike, and i'm damn proud of it!

JP :)

GEEZ, 6 posts to this thread...all in the time it took me to type my reply  I knew this one would get pounded!

Nothing like coming to a fight with an alligator mouth and more then likely hummingbird @&&. Oklahoma is no different then any other state, they want to sell hunting licences to improve hunting opportunities for all the folks that want to hunt. Wonder if buckshot remembers how sorry hunting was back in the good ole days in Oklahoma, few turkeys, some deer scattered about, and very few other game animals. Now we have great turkey hunting, a growing deer herd that gets better every year, some real good quail hunting if the hatch goes right, and even some fair to good elk hunting. I know while I was living there it wasn't just the trophy hunters who made it that way. It was and still is the families and friends who believe hunting is a part of a good way of living and raising a family. Thats why if I can find a half butt job I will be coming back to my true home soon.
However, I have to agree that there are those who ruin everything about our hunting heritage, but blasting away at those who obey the rules and enjoy taking any deer is way out of line. As the person earlier said not everyone has time or money to focus on "big bucks", which is only a bonus to a day of hunting. So troll your butt somewhere else, except for a few most folks here just love to bow hunt. "Happy New Year"

I must be a junk shooter. The first deer I shot was a small 5 pointer when I was 13 years old. I have shot big bucks since then and still consider that one a real trophy. It is a shame when someone gets so caught up in big racks and impressing others that they forget that the act of hunting itself should be enjoyable and not just shooting big racked deer.
