I've read reference to this here on AT, but do not know exactly how it is measured. Can someone explain it?

This year I have my Pro-40 set to what I believe is optimum for me as evidence in my scores, so now I want to learn how to measure the AMO draw lenght so in ther future I can set all my bows exactly the same. I figure that would get me shooting new bows better and faster than before by taking out the guess work.

FYI, I do use a short string loop on all my bows. Can that be figured into the equation, or will I measure it from the string and add for the loop?

Thanks for any help!

Measure from the deepest part of the grip to the apex of the string at full draw and ADD 1 3/4". That is your AMO draw length. :)

AMO draw length is measured as a standard measurement. How ever not all manufacturers are consistent with it. You must take your "Actual" True draw length which is from the throat of the nock at full draw to the deepest part of the grip. Both of these are measured at your full draw length. (Draw the bow and have someone mark the shaft at the point where the deepest part of the grip intersects the shaft. Now that you have this measurement add 1 3/4" to it. the new measure ment is considred AMO draw length. Ken

That was quick

Thanks fo rthe quick response. Now that I understand that, wouldn't it make more sense for me to just use the mesurement w/o the added 1-3/4"??

For your own records, yes, because that what is most useful in making a new bow fit you properly. When ordering a new bow, don't forget to add the 1.75" .

I would welcome an industry-wide change back to Tom Jennings' Tru-Draw measuring system, which BTW, is just the grip to string portion of the AMO draw. The 1 3/4" part is outdated and unneccesary, IMHO.
