Since theres a few threads on what we can to to help proctect our hunting heritage. I thought I'd post my article from my personal website to help show people that its no that hard.

This article comes after much frustration and disgust I have towards anti-hunters and their lies. Since I started hunting as a young boy with my brothers there was always someone trying to stop hunting just because THEY down like it. Well I am older now and its still going on; just now it is more wide spread and in your face. When I recently read a news article about anti-hunters trying to stop bear hunting in my home state of Maine I had had it.
It is way past time that hunters unit, get involved and put an end to these radicals that are trying to put an end to our heritage.
What can I do? You ask. The biggest thing you as a hunter can do is to get involved. Now by getting involved there are several things you can do and you don’t have to give up hunting or change your life stile.
• Join a local, national or inter national hunting organizations
• Sign petitions that will help stop anti-hunters
• Learn about anti-hunters and educate non hunter or fellow hunters on their lies and agendas
• Write your local, state and federal government and let them know you will not stand for anti-hunters trying to dictate wildlife management issues
The above is just small set of things you could do to help and to get you started. Here is a break down of what each actually means.
Joining a hunting organization
By joining pro hunting organization you will be joining ranks of thousands or hundreds of thousands of hunters voicing their views, rights and opinions towards stopping anti-hunters. These organizations are usually connected with government bodies and sole purpose is to see that the rights of hunters are protected.
Some examples of these organizations are:
• Local Organizations: local hunting clubs and ranges etc
• State Organizations: state hunting organizations like United Bow Hunters of New Jersey or West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association, the list goes on and on.
• National Organizations: US Sportsmen Alliance, Ted Nugent’s United Sportsmen of America to name just a few
• International Organizations: International Bow Hunters Organization (IBO), The NRA, and Ducks Unlimited to name a few
Signing petitions
• This simply means what it seize, if your in your local sports store and you notice a petition that is trying to stop some sort of anti-hunter movement…then sign it! Every voice heard will help stop their agenda.
Educate yourself and others
• The anti-hunters are tricky and deceitful, they will take facts on hunting and twist them to suit their agenda. So for the sack of learning how they operate visit their websites and collect information on them. I know this sound strange, but there is no better why to combat them by learning about them. That why if you are confronted you’ll be able to back up your statement with fact not twisted lies.
• Now that you are educated, educate others. There are a lot of people that either think they are against hunting because of what anti’s have told them or they just don’t really understand hunting. So that’s where you come in, you have to educate them on the real facts on what hunting is really about.
Write letters
• This one is pretty easy. All you do is write your government and let them know you wont tolerate anti-hunters and the agenda to end all hunting. When writing letters, always be use tack and state your facts. This can be hard when your are trying to hold back emotions. For a list of your government officials go to: http://www.ussportsmen.org/
Ok you’ve read over my simple ways for you to get involved. I bet your still saying why should I get involved? No anti-hunters will do anything in my state. Well you couldn’t be more wrong. I never thought anti’s would be in Maine, but I was wrong. They are there and they are trying to stop bear hunting. If they win it is statistically shown that they will come back stronger then they did in the beginning. Then once they have a win in one state, they will continue on to other states until they win in all states and end all hunting.
So if you share my feelings and you don’t want to see your hunting heritage end. Then you have to get involved because this is “What you can do”
