I purchased the Archery Innovations Anchor Sight last winter before spring turkey season and initially had really good results. I was limiting my shot distance to 40 yds and was very consistent from 20 - 40 yds. Well, I started to doubt myself and took the anchor sight off for turkey season and put the Red Hawk peep back on the bow.
Put the Anchor Sight back on this summer and have been having mixed results and shooting a little too inconsistently for my comfort level. Well, I finally came to the understanding that all the inconsistency was in my grip! I know now that I have to have a reference with my grip instead of grabbing it where it is comfortable. I found a good reference point today with my Hoyt Vipertec's grip and WOW!!! I'm shooting great groups at all my previously comfortable ranges again.

Now, I'm no professional archer, so take it easy on my humble group! I shot this group today after shooting 35 shots at various ranges. This group is 5 arrows at 60 yards with no peep, just the Archery Innovations Anchor Sight and my Fuse 5 pin sight.
I shoot about that good with a tru-peep on at that distance and now that I've got the grip reference point I'm confident as ever in my shooting and I'm going peepless for deer season!!!!

Just in case anyone is interested, here's my 5 point no fail anchoring system:
1. pressure of grip in crease of palm, inline with the forearm bones (Randy Ulmer's technique)
2. inside of my left wrist touching the arch on the tech riser (makes a bent elbow style manditory)
3. top of D-loop at corner of mouth
4. right thumb knuckle tucked under jaw
5. tip of nose touching string.

Great group! Just set-up my Dad's MQ1 with one about 2 weeks ago and man his groups have improved. I already have a no-peep on mine and I'm happy so far. Gonna hunt with it this year. I'm really happy with how my Dad's shooting with the Anchor sight though. I wish more people would give them a try, I think they would be pleasantly surprised!:cocktail:

Thanks guys, I am really impressed with this Anchor Sight, it is easier to use than I thought it would be.

HotShot88, what kind of trouble are you having with your Vipertec? Mine has always shot terrificly. I had a little cam/limb trouble last summer with a CREAK!!!! noise on the draw, but Hoyt made it right with me and the bow is perfect now. Let me know what the issue is and I may be able to help, I've done everything you can imagine to this bow in terms of switching strings/cables, sights, rests, stabilizers, peeps, etc., etc.... I'm a chronic tinkerer and can't leave well enough alone!!

There is nothing wrong with the bow. I had some cam timing issues, like every Hoyt owner has at one point or another, but new strings and cables fixed that. I was just being sarcastic but I'm not as good of a shot as you are. It's me not the bow. I'm an alright shot, but couldnt group arrows like that at 60 yards without a few hours of practice and a dead still day, then I still dont know if i could do it. Great shooting.

You know what has occured to me??? That my problem with accuracy and the WB beyond 40 yards wasn't the biscuit, it was my inconsistent grip!!!! Now I'm wishing I still had it laying in the archery drawer to give it another try!!! :embara: Oh well, if I lost sleep over all the crap I should have kept, I'd never get any shut eye!! (My brother-in-law and hunting partner says I switch archery gear more often than he craps!!).

Thanks for the replies everyone. I attribute the decent shooting to the Anchor Sight, it really is a great tool. I got mine from the manufacturer by emailing them regarding availability of blemish sights. Got this one for $40-$50 shipped, payed with Paypal. Lynn was really helpful with selection of the mounting plate, set up, etc. Plus it has a $$$ back guarantee that is rock solid! I figured, what do I have to loose? I'm certainly pleased with it so far, and even when I was inconsistent with it, I knew it was due to my form flaws, not the design of the Anchor Sight. If you're in to trying new things I'd recommend giving this a whirl!!

I love my anchor site. I like the larger size. I am able to pick it up in my peripheral vison better.

"ratfart" I think it is refreshing to see you are still shooting the vipertec. When I first joined about a year and a half ago I remember you were shooting a vipertec,I remember this because I was thinking of buying one and was asking opinions and you offered up a few of your own and it was appreciated.Since then I seen your name come up from time to time on Hoyt or vipertec threads(kind of hard to miss the name ratfart:wink: ),nice to see someone liking a bow and sticking with it and not always going with the latest and greatest.By the way my vipertec has developed a creak on the draw,it seems to be the bushing on the upper axle where the cable loop goes on.It`s like it is rubbing the limb, what was the cause of your creaking and could a little lube quiet it down.

Yes, I do still love my Vipertec! That doesn't mean I haven't shot the Trykon and loved it, but I don't see a need to change what is working for me. I shoot this bow better than any bow I've ever shot and every time I start thinking about peddling it I go shoot it for a little bit and the desire to part with it is gone!

As for my creaking limb; at first the Hoyt tech guys said it was the bushing on the top limb rubbing on a "burr" on the finish of the limb. The remedy was to take the bushings and the axle off, sand the finish with 400 grit wet/dry and then lube it and re-install. That worked for a week maybe less. Tried that a couple of times then I just said, "send it back!" Hoyt had it and did some finish changes, new string/cable, new bushings, etc. When it came back I was so excited to shoot it. First time I drew it back at home.."CreEEEEAAAAK!!!" I about blew a gasket! Sent it back to Hoyt and told them to keep it until it was guaranteed not to creak on the draw. They gave me new limbs, new cams, new string/cable, new axles and bushings. Since then it has been silent as a, well... a ...... ratfart!
It is now a #4 cam when it was a #5 cam. The head technician told me that would absolutely solve the problem and so far he is spot on.

I found my experience with Hoyt over all to be terrific. I don't think they listened to me much at first but it was always evident that they were going to do what ever it took to make me happy and stay a loyal Hoyt shooting son of a gun.

Anchor Sight

Hi Ratfar,

First I want to thank you for posting your results; it sure helps us get the information out to those who are looking for another way. But! I have to ask you about how far the Sight tube is screwed into the housing. Looking at the great picture of your setup I see you have it screwed in far enough that there can't be much sensitivity. Normally, when at full draw, the dot should be magnified so it almost fills the circle on the lens. Maybe it is just the angle the picture was taken or is that your preference?

Over the last two years after we made some design changes, I have only had (maybe three or four Anchor sights returned) and in every case the Sight Tube was screwed into the housing. I figured that was why they didn't work for that person; they simply didn't understand the sensitivity adjustment and couldn't possibly shoot well at that sensitivity level. Please let us know how you have it set and if I'm right about your sensitivity level, you must be a great shot!

Very nice.....you are making me want to get rid of the peep!!!!

Go for it Dub! What do you have to lose? It's a money back guarantee for cryin' out loud!!!! If your deer openner is like ours, at the first of Oct. you've got plenty of time to get comfortable and proficient with this thing. I'm looking forward to some low light conditions hunting with that big bright bad boy and both of my eyes wide open!

Nice group, good shooting! I too just recently tried an Anchor Sight and really like it. It is so nice not having to look through a peep. And in low light situations it blows the peep away. I also learned alot about hand torque using it.
