Hey everyone, I'm making this thread because of the tuning issues I'm having with my Nexus 2. I cannot get rid of a nock right tear, and have exhausted my knowledge on how to correct it. Any help is appreciated.
Bow: Prime Nexus 2, Right Handed Configuration
DW: 77 LBS
DL: 28"
Arrow: 27.25" Black Eagle X-Impact, 110GR Insert/Outsert w/ 125 GR point
Rest: Hamskea Trinity Hunter Pro
Here is a quick overview of the issue, and the steps I've taken to resolve it.
Out of the box, I set the center shot up per the recommendation in the Prime manual which is 7/8" from inside of riser to center of the arrow, and lined the arrow up through the center of berger hole. I set the correct draw length and timed the cams on my draw board. First few shots through paper were showing a 3-4" nock right tear. I adjusted the rest to the left out to 1" and was still getting a 2-3" nock right tear. After these results, I reset center shot to 7/8" and installed different shims. Being a right handed shooter, I installed the 3 dot shims on the left side of the cams, and the 1 dot shims on the right side of the cam. First shots after this were still showing a 2" nock right tear. At this point I was unsure of what the issue could be, so I went basic. I inspected all of my cables ensuring nothing was rubbing the cams, checked for proper nock fitment, nock pinch, and ensured I was not putting facial pressure on the string. Stumped, I get on here and do some research. I read a couple of threads talking about some people's bows shipping with incorrect limb configuration regarding limb deflection. I really didn't want to tackle that at the moment so I started messing with different point weights to "weaken" and "stiffen" the dynamic spine of the arrow, but still no luck. Finally I cave in and take the limbs off to inspect the deflection numbers.
Straight off the bow they were as follows:
Top
Left: 57.2
Right: 55.5
Bottom
Left: 55.4
Right: 56.4
According to Prime's deflection chart for a right handed bow, these were installed incorrectly. I re-installed them in the following configuration:
Top
Left: 55.4
Right: 57.2
Bottom
Left: 55.5
Right: 56.4
Feeling extremely confident that this would resolve the issue, and re-assembling the bow, I methodically checked over everything to ensure the bow was in proper operating condition. Note that I did leave the 3 dot/1 dot shims in the bow. The first three shots after the new limb configuration were still 1/2-5/8" nock right tear. I moved the rest out to 15/16", but the tear is still there. This is my first experience with Prime, and frankly I'm disappointed in this bow. I have put more time and effort into trying to get this bow to shoot correctly than any other bow I've ever owned. I'm frustrated with it, and at this point am unsure of what to do with it. Spending a lot of money on a brand new bow, and waiting 12 weeks to get it, I feel like I shouldn't have to put this much effort into getting it to shoot correctly. I am confident that it is not a form related issue, but at this point I'm not sure what else it could be. Any help or even suggestions are welcome. TIA
