I've fed deer in my yard with alfalfa bales. They loved it.

 

With last years bad winter in MN I was thinking about finding a couple round alfalfa bales and putting them out on the property for the deer. Nobody had any though and the one guy that had clover hauled them away immediately after baling so I didn't get any of that either.

 

They do it in canada all the time . If the snow is on i'm sure they will love ya

 

Deer will eat alfalfa when there is nothing else around to eat, but they cannot digest it properly enough to get any nutritional value from it.

 

Thats why in wyoming that it is 90% of there diet LOL they do just fine on it. If its a nice year minimal snow thay wont hit it hard but if cold lots of snow they will pound your bails!

I work at Tsc and I get a bale, use it for a target, once my arrows start going through I throw it out for the deer. Great way to spend ten bucks

 

Cut alfalfa to deer is like pizza that has been sitting out for 3 days. Sure it's edible, but why would they eat it when there is much better food around? Also, Alfalfa will rot when left out in the elements. Not good for their health...... I suggest you don't do it.
