I keep hearing about shooters with an APex 7, taking the A7 cam off and getting a regular Apex cam. Like if you shoot a 28.5 apex 7 you would get a 30.5 apex cam. What's the deal on this? Why and what does it get you?

I have been thinking on getting a 7 with this option and have asked around. My understanding is you order it 1.5" longer. You get more valley, no cable wear. Daniel Boone can shed more light on this because he just went through this process.

Many do it.

My serving was wearing to much on Apex7 cam. I put a apex cam on mine, promblem solved. I feel it pulls easier and shoots better. If your 28.5 draw. You need a 30" apex cam. No speed loss. strings/cables are the same.
Most in my area that have done this very much see improvement.

Might check if it voids your warranty.

i was thinking about the apex cam swap with my apex 7, i called mathews technical supprt and asked about it, the guy told me a different story, he said, specific cam for specific model only since some issues with bow speed and draw weight will be affected, so i decided to stick to my apex 7 cam and since i got it there is no string serving issues....just my experience...good luck!

warranty is also important for me...:)

DB,

I shoot a standard Apex with fingers and love it.....

Thanks for confirming that the A7 cam is NO faster than the standard Apex cam.....I always figured it was the 1" less brace-height that made it faster....

Gotta take that with a grain of salt, my friend.....that is pretty much the standard answer you will get from ALL bow companies techs.....too many people have inter-changed parts on too many different bows VERY successfully for that to be true......

The warranty-issue IS a problem, however......it would definitely be voided....

there is always a room for some equipment revision for me...but not now maybe when my bow is a little bit older since it is still new, you how people are sometimes if they have new stuff...:) someday i might...

Many do different things with there bows

I have sold a few bows for pros and most them have been tweak some way or another. Just the nature of a pro.

I just couldnt live with serving wear on buss cable. Apex7 is the best I ever shot.
I actually sold mine and found about this fix later. I purchased another one and promblem solved and shooting lights out.

Sometimes its a matter of finding what works for you.

Has won everthing in senior pro with his. He has had no serving promblems with his cam. Bow is a proven winner. When guy wins Vegas, Indoor nationals, and pittsburgh. I say he has the right bow in his hand in pro ranks.
DeadX is tough with his Apex7.

Im not even thinking about next years bows. I have the bow that works for me.

No problems from my A7 30" cam from the get go.

I got one of the first bows and it is not powder coated. It's not eating my serving on the buss cable.

is there any "conversion chart" for Apex cams on the A7?

does the serving problems dissappear with other strings?
i have had some problems with servings on both of my Apex's, but Bucknastys strings and cabels seems to work just fine, have been shooting so long with them yet, but it looks good.

Cams

Many didnt exsperiance the promblems I had and some others in my area had.

I dont think everyone had promblems. I tried several avenues before selling my bow. Believe me it was one tough call. But I wont shoot anything that is wearing my serving and requires constant tuning.

Apex Cam has done fine and bow stays tuned and ready to rock. Mathews is not going to recommend this Apex Cam on the Apex7.

Never shot the stock strings.

Vapor Trails were waiting at the bench for the bow to arrive.

They have been flawless all year.

Good posts you guys. At last a good straight answer about the A7. Sage, did you order an A7 with the 30" apex cam or is that a 30" A7 cam. Is the let off with the apex cam as hard feeling as it is with the A7 cam. The 65% let off on my A7 feels like it is 50%, it just is hard to shoot compared to a switchback, outback, lx or other Mathews models. My rival pro was a 65% let off but it was a dream to shoot, kinda sorta wish I still had it. My A7 is the hardest bow to draw and shoot at 55# of any bow I have ever had and quite frankly don't enjoy shooting it because of it. So maybe the cam swap will be a good thing for me.

Many pull my bow back and are surprised its 60lbs. I have owned all those bows and the Apex7 might pull a little harder(speed bow) but far from hard to draw. Just my opionion but it by far the most enjoyable bow I have ever owned or shot. I can name so many in my area that feel the same about this bow. I would give $300.00 for that Apex7 of yours or trade you a Rival Pro for it.

Dan, would you happen to know if the +1.5 inch addition is linear as you change DL? In other words would I need a 28 DL Apex cam to make it 26.5 DL on a Apex 7?

BowAce,

mine is the A7 cam straight from the factory. My bow is set at 60#'s max and is a breeze to shoot and draw.

Now my buddies on the otherhand, didn't feel like it had much letoff, but it was a powdercoated cam and had factory strings.

I have Vapor Trail stings and cables, which is smaller in diameter on the buss cable.
