Folks,

I'm new to archery and plan to buy my first bow soon. Whitetail deer hunting and informal target shooting are my two current interests.

I'm also researching accessories, including sights. One bow I recently shot had a single-pin HHA sight installed. The construction and simplicity of this sight got my attention.

Here's the question: is a single-pin sight adequate for most deer hunting scenarios? Somebody told me that the Bowtech Tribute I was checking out doesn't need more than a single pin because the bow is "fast" enough to shoot an arrow flat for 20-25 yeards or less. I can't imagine taking a shot any further than that.

Is the statement about the single-pin sight true, false or somewhere in between? I'm confused and would really appreciate your opinions.

Thanks,

Flyguy

With that bow, producing the speed it is known for, sight one pin in for 23 yards.... You can then hold basically dead on from 0-30 yards and hit the kill zone. At 35 yards aim about 1" high or so, and ar 40 yards aim about 2-3" high.

A single pin is very effective, even past 25 yards. I buy a new multi pin sight every year for hunting, but I usually wind up just using one, or 2 pins tops.

If you are going to limit yourself to 25 yards than you would be perfect with that sight. Yes you will be pretty flat out to 25 with that bow more so if your draw is long. My friend shoots 29" with the tirbute and his pins are so close together it almost looks like 1 pin

My exsperiance

Last ten years I have shot one pin.

I have missed one deer at 15 yards in last ten years. I harvest atleast three deer a year and most time up to six or more.

Now that being said I also have shot this at tournaments on targets.

Shooting 22 perfect shots out of 30 targets.

Fact is know your equipment and shoot it. Know what your capable of doing with that bow before going a field. It works for me.

I'm sure some people find the workable, but I prefer to have one pin for 20 yards, one for 30 and one for 40. Only had to use the 20 pin so far, but I like having the precison of other yardage points for a more precise shot. Seems to me having more pins helps reduce potential for error.

This is something I have been kicking around myself.

I am pretty new to archery, and I have an 05 Ultratec 27.5" draw shooting a tad under 65lbs... I bought a Sword Apex Twilight Hunter model 4 pin sight and so far, I haven't even tried shooting my bow past 20 yards. I set a pin at 10yds, got comfortable there, and set second one at 20 yds. I am doing almost all my practicing now from 20 yds. The 10 yd pin and 20 yd pin are so close together it is almost annoying.

I considered trying a single pin sight, but I really like the Sword. Been thinking about removing 2 of the pins, and just shooting with 2. Anyone done this? What would be the best "zero" distances for a two pin set up? Something like 20 yd and 35 yd?

For right now (atleast this year), I don't see myself taking ANY shots at a real deer past 30yds.

Perhaps suggestions on a REAL good quality one pin hunting sight from some of you guys who shoot them?

you really don't need a 10 yrd pin.your 20 should be sufficient for that.some people like to use a 25 and a 35.also a little depends on the speed of your bow.daniel boone said it perfect sight in and KNOW your equipment and what your capable of
