I feel like these TAC events have become the new best thing (no I have not been) but see so many videos and how many events are popping up more and more! Locally 3D never has been huge, although popular and honestly very expensive to likely not fit the needs of your average or even above average archery bow hunters? Or am I wrong? I like 3D and made me a solid shooter I just don't enjoy the way it is as much anymore and considering starting to plan my years of shooting more toward TAC events as it look more than just a shoot but a damn good time with friends and family and accommodates all! Not saying ASA or IBO is dying but the TAC events appear to be blow those numbers away? Thoughts and experiences on these? Additionally how do you guys look up which events and time it out and get tickets and so on as I hear they sell out! Thanks!
I see the increased visibility of TAC as a good thing for the 3D archery world as a whole. Here in SC, even though we haven't had any TAC events close to us, I've seen an increase in other 3D events in and around my area as a direct correlation to TAC. Even those that haven't shot a TAC event talk about it at local 3D events.
It seems TAC has a lot of long walks up hills and long shots. If that is correct, it seems targeted at elk hunters.
That's not entirely true. The San Antonio event was as flat as they get. Granted, it was a "long walk" with some "long shots" but the length of the walk and the distance of the shot vary depending on which course you choose to shoot. The first TAC event i ever shot was in Park City. We shot two courses over the two days we were there. One was the "Leupold Course." Other than the fact that the setting was in the mountains of Utah, that particular course was laid out very similar to 3D events I've shot here in the east. Shot distances ranged from 30 yards to 60 yards. Some shots were in thick wooded areas and some were on field edges but it very much had a whitetail hunting feel to it. The TAc events here in the eastern part of the country (TN, PA specifically, since they're the only other TAC events I've shot) are very "whitetail hunting oriented," in my opinion.
The biggest takeaway from TAC for me... It was an incredibly fun experience that challenged me as an archer and I was able to show myself that I was far more capable of doing things with a bow than I ever thought I was. Before TAC, I had never taken a shot over 50 yards (backyard practicing) but TAC showed me I was capable of much more. Now, I rarely practice closer than 40 yards and out 60 yards. None of my hunting spots offer a shot over 35 yards and practicing at those longer ranges makes the shorter, more realistic hunting shots, seem much easier to execute.
I don't see TAC as anything but having a positive impact on the archery community as a whole.
