Hey guys, I recently had a Victory V-Tac 23 with a 380 spine hit a wood fence (I flinched, ok...), the only damage to it is a surface scratch that does not appear to have penetrated the outer coating on the carbon. I had someone else examine the arrow, and they claimed that there is a tiny bulge feeling a few inches from the tip of the arrow, however, I cannot see or feel it myself. Any ideas about the safety of the arrow?

I look them over with a magnifier, twist and bend them. I don't discard an arrow for some minor blemishes. If I did not measure a bulge I would assume there is not one. But I will admit I have done dangerous work and dangerous hobbies all my life, and OSHA would bust me for something about 90 percent of the time if they could watch me, I don't always put on my life jacket or my seat belt. So consider that .

Is it worth a trip to the ER?? Seen one go into guys arm at the Senior Olympics in Minneapolis, entered at elbow & exited just above his wrist. Took him off the field in ambulance, really messed up his day & trip from WV. What do you think that cost? Not worth the price of an arrow!

My general rule is, when it doubt, throw it out. No arrow cost more than and trip to the ER.

When in doubt, don't. I wear a seat belt as it saved my posterior once. I wear a life jacket. Sign at Dale Hollow boat ramp said over 300 didn't.

Flex the arrow, lots of arrows hit hard objects and are perfectly fine. If you hear anything while flexing it or see any damage then toss it. It’s good practice to flex your arrows regardless of a good or bad hit, I’m constantly flexing my arrows and have randomly found a coupe over the years that will just snap in half while flexing without any reason that I know of. I especially make sure to check them if I’m group shooting.

Just had a field point to nock impact. The nock looked OK, I shot it and the shaft blew up in my face when the string split the end of the arrow into stands of flying carbon. I will VERY lucky I did not eat the whole peach. Chuck it or gamble with the outcome for $10.

Google up images of people with strands of carbon all through their hand and wrist, and then decide if it is really worth it to get some more shots out of one single arrow that is showing surface damage and a bulge.
Would you let your kid/spouse/significant other/grandma/mom or anyone that means a lot to you shoot it with zero concerns?
Scrap that sucker, it's just an arrow.

Shot with a guy the other day who had one go through his hand and told me the story - verified by others at the range. Very lucky it went totally through without doing any permanent damage. Watches his arrows like a hawk and so do I.
