Here's my version. You can adjust length between arrow supports/weight from standard as long as weight x length x length x length stays constant. Shorter is more convenient, but takes a heavier weight, longer is probably more accurate. The dial gauges are available from Harbor Fright for about $8.

I used a Harbor Freight cheapy with a 1" travel, reading in .001", and put a nylon button on the top so the arrow wouldn't slide off.
