Look to get a 600 spine arrow or possibly a 500 spine. The amount of weight you have up front will go towards how much to cut off if any. As a gauge I am using a Beman ICS hunter shaft in 500 spine and have a total insert and point weight of 250 grains. I am shooting a 43# bow. I shoot full length arrows.

With a 40# Bear Ausable, I am using Goldtip 1535, full length, 4" X 3 fletching, and 145gr field points, @ 27" DL. Ever bow tunes differently, everybody's release is different, this should be in the ballpark, but your mileage may vary.
And do not cut your arrows until you develop good form, as your draw length will probably change.

You got some pretty good advice already on this thread.

I have used the GT Trads on a 40# bow and both the 1535 (600 spine) and the 3555 (500 spine) have worked for me. One big factor to help you choose is the total arrow weight. On a 40# bow I prefer a light arrow to help get a flat trajectory. Cut the arrows sparingly. It seems that I remember they get real stiff, real quick when you cut them. I would probably wouldn't cut them at all and try with different point weights and see how that works.

You can buy one at a time from Lancaster, so you could buy a couple of each and experiment before you load up on either one. Since you are new to trad, don't worry too much about the arrows because your form will get better with experience and you'll figure out how to tune and how you like your arrows over time.

This is some great advice ! Gives me a great starting point . This is a different sickness from compound archery . I will definitely want to obtain the flatest trajectory. I shot a black widow pl and psr . And it felt so good and natural. Now i just have to decide on psr and pl widow . Maybe use the test drive they offer .

GT Trad 1535 probably if you are concerned about trajectory. Download Stu's Spine Calculator to get a real good estimate.

Regardless of the arrow, recurve and longbows are not fast. If you get 180 fps you are doing well. Really not an issue if shooting 20 and under.
