As you might know, I shoot some crazy arrow combinations.
My average tree stand shot distance, yup, Texas baited hunting is 18 yards.
My average stalking shot distance is 32, closest 5 yards - longest 43, my own personal restrictions. (Man stalking pigs in the spring is a hoot).

Anyway,
Come on AT, let me know how far you whacked your critter of choice this year! Please let me know if it was in a stand of some type (tree, tent, etc) or stalking, calling, elk, etc.

Thanks,
Need the info for a project at the Ranch Fairy lab!

Longest was 46 yards. I shot a hog, shortest was directly under my loc on, I was 20 feet in a tree, caught edge of spine and one lung and guessing a deflection off rib into heart for a nice little slice. Ground blind I shot one eating persimmons at 3 yards(was the hardest shot because my rest would squeak when I drew and it caused the Deer to get sketchy but I just did it slow). I know a guy who shot a antelope at 70, had to make a follow up shot. I try to stay 20-25 yards and get close to the Deer. Never have spotted and stalked.

Longest shots I have ever harvested deer at were twice at 45 yards
Shortest ever was about 7 yds
average probably about 20-25 yds on most shots
This year I shot a buck at 20 yards
all from a treestand
i setup so most shots are 30 yds or less

My longest was the first year I picked up a bow, a bull elk at 71 yards. I didn't think it was that big a deal, but had no idea we weren't "supposed" to shoot that far.:dontknow:

Since then my average is right at 41 yards, but I'm generally chasing elk solo so I shoot when I get a good shot.

Longest was about 45 from a tree stand, but "average" is probably under 20 from the stand (don't think I've ever killed a deer with a bow other than from a treestand)
To me, it's got nothing to do with "average distance". If I can extend my effective range, I'm going to do so for those instances when they don't come in to "average" distance.

I've only drawn once this year... Doe at 11 yards (climber 25' up a tree), but I didn't release... either getting soft or lazy in my old age! The longest shot I ever made was 57 yards with an old pendelum sight on a slow bow (before the days of range finders). Was lucky & double lunged the ducking deer! I limit my shots now to about 35 yds... maybe 40 if deer is perfectly calm & there is a little background noise to muffle the sound of the shot.

In 40+ years, both from the ground and tree stands my longer shot was 37 yards and the shortest was about 5'. That 5' shot was almost at the base of my tree and one of the hardest shots to make. To cut down on shot angle I prefer about 25 yards, but sometimes the animals don't always cooperate with that.
