My older Scott Silverhorn releases were showing their age, and the Short n Sweetr release was not always resetting like I wanted it to, and I just like to mess with new releases from time to time. I like a release that does not have a hard connection between the release head and the strap, so the Hawk with the strap was perfect. I also like a hook release with the hook opening to the left so I can (being right handed) hook the release by feel on my "D" loop while keeping my eyes on the animal or 3D target. I like a forward style trigger so that I reach somewhat forward to engage it. This release has all of this, so got a couple for testing.
My first impressions were good. I like how the strap to the head of the release is held in place by a larger single allen screw. Seems very robust. The strap is a standard strap and very comfortable and repeatable. The head is green which doesn't matter at all really, but it blends in with the outdoor theme. I played with the head before I shot it, and it always seemed to lock back in the cocked position when released, so that is good.
I shot this release in my basement shop for a couple hours while I was spine testing and nock tuning some shafts. I shot it well over 100 times and no issues. It failed to reset 1 time, as the first thing I do out of habit is press on the top of the head to make sure the hook is fully re-engaged. It only snapped back the one time, every other time it was ready for the next shot. I did some "command" shooting, and I could force the release to go off exactly when I wanted it to go off. But squeeze, squeeze, squeeze and there is a very nice, crisp single sear release feel that you will appreciate.
Overall I really like it, and think it will make it's way with me to CO this year for my elk hunt. I've not much experience with B3 products, but so far this looks like a solid offering.
